3 Students require 17 credits to graduate from high school. Included in these, are 7 compulsory credits listed below: Grade 11 English 11 (2 credits) Math 11 (1 credit) Science (or approved Technology Course) (1 credit) Modern History 11 (1 credit) Fine Arts/Life Role Development cluster (1 credit) Grade 12 English 12 (1 credit)

4 In addition to the 17 credits required, students must have the following: Grade 12 English and a minimum of four other credits at the grade 12 level. Success on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) – or approved Exemption Successfully complete either the Post Intensive French (PIF) 10 or French Immersion Language Arts (FILA) 10 – or approved Exemption All students must complete the two grade 10 Mathematics courses (Geometry, Measurement and Finance 10 and Number, Relations and Functions 10)

9  Grade 9 ◦ Students must do 50% of courseload in French (ie) 5 out of their 10 courses  Grade 10 ◦ Students must do 50% of courseload in French (ie) 5 out of their 10 courses  Grade 11 and 12 ◦ Students must do 25% of their courseload in French (ie) 5 of their 20 courses  Students who satisfy these requirements will receive a certificate of French Immersion at Graduation

Ed 10 ◦ Students can also choose one Grade 11 course in their Grade 10 year. FI options are:  FI Biology 112  FI Modern History 112  FI Theatre Arts 110 (Local Option)

11  Grade 11 and 12 ◦ FI Modern History 112 ◦ Fi Biology 112, 122 ◦ FI Intro to Environmental Science 120 ◦ FI Co-op (2 credits or 3 credits) *Gr. 12’s only*  Local option ◦ FI Relations Familiales 120 ◦ FI Language Arts 110, 120 ◦ FI World Issues 120 ◦ FI Theatre Arts 110  Local Option *There may be online course options as well that are offered in French that could be used towards the French Immersion Certificate

12  To receive this Certificate, students must take an oral proficiency interview in grade 12.  Students taking a French 122 or French Immersion 120 course will be tested. The assessment fee is waived for these students.  The fee is $60 for other students who wish to be assessed.  The Certificate states that the student has achieved a level of proficiency as defined by the EECD.

13  The courses students take will influence the options available to them after high school.  Some options for students who wish to pursue a post-secondary education are: ◦ Apprenticeship  A minimum of Grade 12 or the equivalent to Grade 12 is required to enter into an apprenticeship program. ◦ College  Requirements vary according to program. ◦ University  Admission requirements vary but on average you need minimum of 5 Grade 12 courses (including English) in university approved courses. (May need upwards of 6 courses in some universities outside of Atlantic Canada.)

14 March 12 ◦ Guidance Counsellors will be delivering presentations to Grade 9, 10, 11 students to help better prepare them for making their course selections. March 12 ◦ Parent Information Session at beginning at 6:30 March 13 ◦ Students given course selection sheets during period 1. March 17 o Course Selection Sheets are due to the student’s Period 1 teacher.

Ed, Visual Arts  Students choose 1 Grade 11 course. ◦ If students choose the AP or Calculus 120 Path, their Grade 11 course will be Foundations in Math 110. ◦ Consult course selection sheet for Gr. 11 options.

17  Students take 5 classes per semester, with English taking up one class each semester.  All students take the following: ◦ English 111, 112, or 113 ◦ Minimum one Math course ◦ Modern History 111, 112, or 113  If this was chosen in Grade 10, then the student chooses an elective in its place. ◦ Minimum one Science course ◦ Minimum one Fine Arts / Life Role course  Consult selection sheet for list of applicable courses.  4 elective courses ◦ Consult selection sheet for list of options.  Students on the AP Math or Calculus 12 Math Path will choose Pre-Calculus 110 and Pre-Calculus 120A  Be sure to select 2 Alternate courses.

18  Students take 5 classes per semester.  All students must take the following: ◦ English 121, 122, or 123  Students choose 9 electives.  Students on the AP Math or Calculus 120 Math path will select Pre-Calculus 120B and AP Math 120 or Calculus 120  Things to keep in mind: ◦ Know the Local Options that you have completed and/or have selected. Only 2 can be used for credits towards graduation. ◦ Know the graduation requirements and be sure they are met in what you have completed and have selected. ◦ The courses that are selected will have an impact on the post-secondary options available following graduation. Make selections with this in mind.
