4. The Fight Against Injustice Key ? - How did African Americans react to discrimination and segregation? Jim Crow laws became systematized and widespread. Purpose was to segregate races. African Americans were made to take tests or pay poll taxes. The North discriminated too.

African Americans united in the North by forming the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). World Wars I and II also strengthened African Americans awareness of their civil rights.
