Communications Committee Effectiveness of the effort: In my view, the goal of the Communications Committee is to first ensure that the people we reach are told of the full activities of NPSS and that secondly some are encouraged to join our community more fully with a membership. In addition, we are working to bring more communities into our Society. Overall, 2011 was a difficult year for ensuring that our message gets out as none of us have had our appointments renewed and some positions have gone unfilled.

3. Communications Committee Literature, Booth, Web Promotional Literature: Nothing new to report Booth: We need to decide on how to support conferences in Europe with a booth. Distribution: We are about to start the rush of 2012 Please be sure your Conference Chairs are briefed on the logistics of receiving and stuffing our literature into registration bags and providing booth space in a busy area. Web Site: Please remember to keep your area of the site current if not expanded. IEEE has an email opt-in facility that we could implement for information emails from us on particular topics.

4. Communications Committee Booth Issues Pictures: Remember also pictures this year in preparation for next year. I need ones that show: – People at work – Experiments – People interacting to make the conferences look exciting and essential to attend! In meetings, listening attentively to a speaker In poster sessions, a group around a poster interacting In the exhibit area Just spontaneous conversations

5. Communications Committee Membership Membership: The charts attached show membership and the comparisons with the year earlier membership. They show greater February retention but lower membership and recruiting this year. 2011 should have been the better recruiting year in our 2-year cycle.
