2  Industrial Relations fundamental document: l “INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS OFFICER: GUIDE BOOK” (Version 1.0, August 2005 ? )  Goals & objectives l The ultimate goal of the Section Industrial Relation Officer (IRO) is to increase the IEEE membership in the industry (and) to bridge the gap between industry and academia. l The objective of the Section IRO is to highlight the mutual benefits of IEEE’s products, services and membership to industry, their employees and society at large. 3  IR Scope: 1. Promote IEEE to industry by informing about IEEE benefits, available products and services 2. Convince industry that participation in professional associations like IEEE is beneficial to both the company and its employees 3. Create & maintain a database on companies and contacts 4. Identify industry’s needs by surveys, conducted by either IEEE or a professional agency 5. Encourage networking between IEEE members in industry and academia 6. Convince IEEE to position its products & services better towards industry’s needs 7. Promote members and volunteer’s involvement with industry and community 8. Support Section, Chapter and Student Branch representatives in developing contacts and relationship with the industry and community 9. Interact with IEEE entities such as (R8 IRC), Chapters and other Sections

Ensure that the Section establishes and maintains contacts and links with local industries, national societies and other organizations. 2. Provide guidelines and support to the Section, Chapter and Student Branch representatives and others as required 3. Distribute information regarding IEEE activities, useful when establishing industry contacts. 4. Identify local needs in order to allow IEEE to adapt its offerings of standard – and/or tailored products and services. 5. Facilitate development of tools and material to communicate with local industry and community 6. Recruit and promote volunteers from industry in Section and Chapter leadership 7. Bridge the gap between IEEE members in local industry and academia by encouraging networking among both sectors. 8. Promote seminars and other local events with industry and of industrial relevance

7 Baltic Area Committee Meeting Tallinn 14 th -15 th June 2008 1.Appointing an IRO for each Section ! 2.Establishing database of industrial enterprises & contacts 3.Meetings with national industry & industrial representatives 4.Establishing a Section Industrial Relations Forum (IRF) as a national reference group 5.Establishing cooperation with Industrial Organizations 6.Establishing an IRO Network for the Baltic Area ? 7.Establishing Area Chapter & Student Branch cooperation 8.Establishing cooperative Industrial R&D projects within the Region (EU/EEA-NFM + National funding ?) ðPromoting IEEE membership through industrial cooperative projects ðEmpower industry by utilizing IEEE resources to increase its intellectual capital
