2 Ethics-  the means for determining what a society’s values ought to be.

3 The Golden Rule Principle,  -“Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”  What is it based on? Empathy

4 The Greatest Good Principle-  a decision is based on whether an action will create the greatest good for the greatest number of people.

5 How does ethics and the law conflict?  You must decide whether to do what you know is morally right or obey the law.

6 Can a state statue conflict with the U. S. Constitution?  No it would be unconstitutional.

7 Administrative agencies-  can make their own rules, enforce their rules, investigate violations of their rules, and decide the guilt or innocence of those who violate their rules.

8 How are state court systems related?

9 3 Levels of the Federal Courts,  Top  Middle  Bottom

10 Juvenilecourts  -have special jurisdiction over delinquent, unruly, abused or neglected children up to a certain age.

11 Unconstitutional Law-  invalid law

12 Laws of the U. S. are based on common law.

13 Heart of the Golden rule- Empathy

14 Law-  is the system of rules of conduct established by the government of a society to maintain stability and justice

15 Precedent-  Judges refer back to past cases to make their decisions.

16 Delinquent child-  a minor under a certain age (generally 16 & 18) who has committed an adult crime.

17 What is the jurisdiction of local courts?-  limited

18 What is the jurisdiction of Federal courts-  Admiralty

19 Bill of Rights-  1st amendments to the U.S. Constitution

20 How many judicial courts is the U. S. divided into?  13

21 What is the highest court in the land?  The Supreme Court

22 Constitution-  country’s most fundamental law
