2 Trial Expert  Some people were blamed for illness, which made others blame more people.  The person that was blamed, blamed someone else so they wouldn’t be guilty anymore.  When someone was accused they would be arrested, examined, and interrogated.

3 Trial continues……  If you were pregnant you were temporarily reprieved from being executed.  The punishment for being a witch was being executed.  20 people were put to death and imprisoned, and 1 was pressed to death.

4 Religion Expert In the Puritan Religion Witchcraft was one of the biggest crimes and could be punished by death. 6 Family Life Expert The different families had to support themselves even if it was challenging. By making their own clothes, planting vegetables, raising meat, and farming. It was a very harsh and hard growing up during this time period. It is because children were expected behave under the same strict code as the adults. 7 Family Life continues…..  The difference between expectations for boys vs. girls are that boys worked as apprentices outside the house, practicing such skills as carpentry or crafts. Also the boys were allowed to explore the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Girls were expected to tend to the house by helping their mothers cook, wash, clean, and sew.  Children during this time period were educated by owning the bible and other religious works. Including a few that described evil spirits and witch craft in great detail. There were a few books written for children, but these often warned what would happen or suffer for sinful acts.  Salem was under British rule when the hysteria began, the colony was waiting for a new governor and had no charter to enforce laws. By the time William Phips, the new governor arrived in Massachusetts. The jails were already filled with alleged witches. Also, New England towns were under attack by Native Americans and French Canadians.

8 Historical Events  The divisions that existed are Salem Town and Salem Village, to separate the differences.  Reverend Samuel Paris controlled Salem during 1692.  Witch trials made things worse and they all started fighting. Everyone was blaming each other, because they didn’t have a governor.

9 Historical continues……..  Salem was under British rule. Most families were in need of help and were in poverty  The economy was bad, because there were poor people trying to survive, but the other society was going along fine.  People kept dying, laws were being broken, the divisions were separating, the weather Was changing, and there was new government.
