4 Notas: Negative Tú commands

5 Negative tú commands Tell someone informally, not to do something Don’t start your homework. Don’t eat junk food.

6 Uses the yo form of the verb in the present tense -AR ending verbs The ending becomes –es hablar  hablo  hables -ER/-IR ending verbs The ending becomes –as Creer  creo  creas Must add “no” before the conjugated command No hables

7 With negative tú commands, the pronoun is placed before the verb. No me dejes los platos sucios. Don’t leave me the dirty dishes. No te pongas un traje de baño, no vamos a nadar. Don’t put on a bathing suit, we aren’t swimming.

8 Verbs that have spelling changes will be consistent llego  llegues digo  digas pongo  pongas

9 Irregular tú commands dar- to give No des estar- to be No estés ir- to go No vayas saber- to know No sepas ser- to be No seas

10 Spelling changes Verbs that end in –car, -gar, -zar have these spelling changes Tocar  toques Llegar  llegues Empezar  empieces (also stem changies e to ie)

11 Práctica Nadar en el mar por la noche No nades en el mar por la noche. Llevar mucho equipaje No lleves mucho equipaje. Ser malo No seas malo. Comer mucho azúcar No comas mucha azúcar.

12 Presentación You will create a poster using affirmative and negative tú commands. The commands must give life advice. Poster will have: Colored picture (drawn or printed) for every sentence You will turn in to me 10 sentences using tú commands, not on the poster 5 sentences in the affirmative tú command 5sentences in the negative tú command Must be memorized Do not use my class examples Do not repeat verbs Presentaciones mañana May work with 1 partner
