Scientific Method (5 Steps!) Can be applied to any problem, no matter how simple. State the Problem Gather Info Form a Hypothesis Test the Hypothesis Control and a variable State the Conclusion Do we have a Theory? How is this different from a Law Examples?

What is a Control? A control is variables that are kept the same. During an experiment all variables must be “controlled” or THE SAME except for the variable that is being tested.

What is a Variable? Any factor, trait or condition that can exist in differing amounts. A variable that is being tested is the only factor that will change during an experiment INDEPENDENT VARIABLE- this is the variable that YOU are changing. Observations are made to see if the change of the independent variable has an impact on the dependent variables. DEPENDENT VARIABLE- these variables change as a result of the independent variable. This is what is being measured or where the data comes from. What you are measuring

Design an experiment using scientific method… You own a trucking company and have to transport a series of gasses and need to determine which gases are flammable. (Air, Helium, Hydrogen, CO2) Design an experiment…

Which brand of gum’s flavor lasts longest?

OUR HYPOTHESIS If I chew Doublemint gum then its flavor will last longer than Trident

Design the Experiment and Test the Experiment

TRIDENT (time in seconds) 388 565 553 575 577 588 630 655 682 775 731 742 746 DOUBLEMINT (time in seconds) 458 530 580 581 625 654 658 661 986
