1 Start of 18 century France was still Absolute Monarchy nation Absolute Monarchy means all nation power is lay with the king, the clergy, and the nobles. King, clergy, and the nobles were just 5 percent of the French people,but they didn’t pay taxes, having extravagances and controlled almost everything. Ordinary people has to pay lots of taxes and starving to death. 18c century was age of Enlightenment.

2 1788 Treasury was empty Also, bad weather had caused widespread food storages. Cities over crowed with starving people. Some people wrote about the importance of freedom and human rights. Children lived poorly and some was dead.

3 May 5 th 1789 King Louis XVI called a meeting 3 Different classes of people, nobles, clergy, and commoners came to the meeting. They talked about new tax policy. The meeting is called ‘Estates General’ because each classes of people was called ‘Estate’.

4 June 17 th 1789 Tennis Court Oath In May 17 1789, commoners declared a ‘National Assembly’. Other two classes joined the assembly. 3 classes promised they would stick together until they wrote a new constitution for France. It is called Tennis Court Oath because it happened on an tennis court.

5 July 14 th 1789 ∼ French Revolution started & lasted for 10years! There was a huge conflict between king’s army and estates. Estates build barricades with are things that can block the king’s army like desk, chair, blanket and so on… Estates were little bet exited because maybe if they win, they could change the law.

6 July 14 th 1789 After a big fight, estates took over a Bastille. Bastille is a huge prison and fortress that was a powerful symbol of the monarchy. Estates made the prisoners in their side. Louis XVI’s army retreated because they was losing in the revolution. Took over the Bastille

7 1793 Executing!!! Group of estates took over the France and started executing everyone who disagreed. People who disagreed were beheaded with a executing device called guillotine. This happen is called ‘Reign of Terror’. Louis IXV and Marie Antoinette the queen of the France also beheaded with a guillotine.

8 August 26 th 1798 Declaration of human rights In August 26 th 1798, people in France said the ‘Declaration of human rights’. In the script of ‘Declaration of human rights’, it contains freedom, rights for the citizens, safety and so on… It was a one of the biggest event of the history.

9 1804 End of the revolution King was dead,but France was still in chaos The estates fought among themselves, and royalists wanted to bring a king back into power Napoleon tried to defeat an armed revolt in Paris. He declared himself in emperor in 1804.
