Knows the director of the movie “Titanic.” Knows when it is appropriate to fly a flag upside down. Knows what a vexillologist is. Knows the name of the captain of the “Titanic.” Knows what the blue portion of the flag containing the stars is called. Can name five concentration camps. Can explain the theory as to how the “Titanic” sank. Can sing a portion of our national anthem. Knows the proper procedure for disposing old worn out flags. Knows how long it took Hitler to decide on the “Final Solution.”

The Social Studies class studied WW II and the Executive Order 9066 and Manzanar. The Music class played and researched the music of the 1940s-50s. The Math class calculated the temperatures of the housing units made of tin and the square footage of the housing units. The Health class looked at the food consumed or made at the internment camps.

10 Thematic Units First, pick your topic or content. Second, look to three other disciplines that could be integrated into this topic. Third, speak to the three other teachers and discuss how all could be integrated into a thematic unit. Fourth, brainstorm ideas. Fifth, develop a plan. Six, put into action.
