2 Program Objectives Identify all pool pump rebate programs
in thern California Provide tools for selling energy efficiency Define Energy Terminology Title 20 Regulations Certification under PG&E / Pentair– Exclusive Rebate Program -Requires attendance at Rebate Eligible Product Training

3 Why Rebates? 1.5 Million pools in California
2000 watts for average pool 6 power plants dedicated to operating pool pumps

4 Operating cost vs. Purchase Price
Automobile 2 Hp EE Pump Purchase Price $30,000 $700 Energy Cost $2.75 / Gal. $0.25 / kWh Efficiency 25 MPG 65% Annual Operation 25,000 miles 3,650 Hours (10 Hrs/day) Annual Operating Cost $ 2750 $ 2173 Operating cost as % of Purchase Price 9% 310%

5 Pool Pump and Motor Energy Efficient Standards
California Title 20 Pool Pump and Motor Energy Efficient Standards Jan 1, 2006 Pump Motors must be Energy Efficient Standard test methods for: Motors Pumps (including motor) Labeling – Rated Hp pump Total Hp of the motor Jan. 1, 2008 All pumps 1 Hp and greater must be multiple speed Must have a controller for multi speed pumps

14 Amps do not Calculate Cost
What is an Amp A unit of measurement that tells how much electricity (electrons) flows through a conductor.  Watts (AC circuit) = Volts X Amps X Power Factor You can’t compare the IntelliFlo to a conventional pump with Amps. (Power Factors are EXTREMELY DIFFERENT)

15 The Difference Between kW & kWh
kW (kilo-Watts) The “Rate” of energy consumption A measure of power (equal to 1,000 watts) An instantaneous measure, for example, 60 mph or 30 gpm “right now” The IntelliFlo displays Input Power in Watts kWh (kilo-Watt hours) The “Quantity” of energy consumed The basic unit for pricing electricity…12¢ per kWh Equivalent to one kilowatt (kW) of power used for one hour. It equals 1,000 watt-hours and is the equivalent of 3,412 Btu’s of energy.

16 Tier System in Electrical Bills
Tier Level Monthly Consumption kWh usage (% over baseline) kWh Rate Tier 1 (Baseline) 0 – 460 kWh $ 0.12 / kWh Tier 2 461 – 600 kWh (1% - 30 %) $ 0.14 / kWh Tier 3 601 – 920 kWh (31% %) $ 0.23 / kWh Tier 4 921 – 1380 kWh (101% %) $ 0.29 / kWh Tier 5 1381 – 3000 kWh (>200 %) $ 0.34 / kWh hours/day = 575 kWh / month

17 Pump Affinity Law ½ Speed (rpm) ≈ ½ gpm ½ Speed (rpm) ≈ ½ x ½ = ¼ Head
Speed (rpm) ≈ Flow (gpm) Speed (rpm) ≈ Pressure2 (ft. of Head) Speed (rpm) ≈ Power3 (kW) Example: Reduce speed 3000 rpm  1500 rpm (50%) ½ Speed (rpm) ≈ ½ gpm ½ Speed (rpm) ≈ ½ x ½ = ¼ Head ½ Speed (rpm) ≈ ½ x ½ x ½ = ⅛ kW 3000 rpm  1000 rpm (33%) 1/3 Speed (rpm) ≈ 1/3 x 1/3 x 1/3 = 1/27 kW

18 Pressure as Speed Changes
Pump Affinity Law Flow as Speed Changes Pressure as Speed Changes Power as Speed Changes Energy saved through speed reduction is MUCH GREATER than savings through improved motor efficiency

19 Flow vs. Power Speed Flow Power (rpm) (gpm) (W) 3450 66 2000 3000 55
1157 2400 44 593 1800 33 250 1200 22 74 600 11 9

20 Variable Speed Pumping Benefits
Key Concept – Slower is better Reduces energy cost (by as much as 90%). Enhanced equipment performance Quiet as a whisper Longer equipment life Protects itself from damage Customize and change water features

23 PG&E / Pentair Rebate Program
A rebate program funded by PG&E to promote the installation of Pentair’s innovative new variable speed pool pump - Consumer $100 - Installer $400 Rebate eligible: IntelliFlo®, IntelliFlo® 4x160, IntelliPro® 4x160, Requires Pentair/PG&E Certification Consumer need not do anything except sign the invoice; your application will automatically initiate a $100 rebate sent directly to the consumer. Applications must be submitted to Pentair from you the installer for the full eligibility of both rebates. - Note: Just like previous programs, applications sent directly to PG&E will qualify for only the $100 consumer / $200 installer rebates.

24 PG&E / Pentair Rebate Program --Procedure
To Qualify Attend training (Training Verification Form) Agree to program requirements (Letter of Agreement – LOA) Once verified, you’ll receive confirmation --You are now a Certified Installer under the Pentair/PG&E Rebate Program – To Claim Rebates Log-in to program website, Download and print hard copy of Installation Report Identify Customer, install eligible pump, and complete an Installation Report on site Submit Installation Report via website (transfer info to online form) Fax a copy signed by customer & you to ATTN: Sadia Sadiq at (919) All installations subject to random inspections Rebate checks Issued: - Consumer $100 | Installer $400 ($200 from PG&E + $200 from Pentair)

25 PG&E / Pentair Rebate Program --Highlights
Installation - The IntelliFlo® unit must be installed per specification. We request that it initially be programmed to NOT operate between the hours of 12PM (noon) and 6PM Inspections – All installations are subject to inspections from an authorized representative of Pentair, PG&E, or authorized third party. Participation - Please verbally inform your customer that participation in this program disqualifies them from participating in PG&E’s Pool Pump Rebate Program Statement - The invoice left with the customer must contain the following statement: “The customer is entitled to a $100 rebate through this program. As Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) is funding this program, the customer is NOT eligible for an additional rebate through PG&E’s Pool Pump Motor Rebate program.”
