1 PROCEDURES & CONSEQUENCES
ROHINI MUTHUSUBRAMANIAN TED 650 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND INSTRUCTION

2 ENTRANCE PROCEDURES: Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. Wait until students from previous block have exited the classroom Enter the classroom quietly. Pick up any handouts and do any housekeeping items quickly and quietly. Go directly to your assigned seat. If you do not have two sharpened pencils, now is the time to sharpen them. Get ready and begin working.

3 RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS:
Immediately start your bell work. (Problems will be posted on the overhead projector or given as worksheet) Work quietly and give it your best shot! If you have a question, please raise your hand. When you finish, wait quietly and check your work.

4 DURING INSTRUCTION: Listen to the teacher with full attention.
No pencil sharpening, talking, moving about the classroom, or whispering. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand and waiting quietly to be called on. After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

5 WHEN THE TEACHER RAISES HER HAND:
Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face the teacher and wait silently. Quietly, notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised her hand. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

6 IF YOU ARE ABSENT: Ask your neighbors what we did.
If you have questions about assignments, check with the teacher when she is free. Do the work at home. If you missed a test because of an excused absence, inform the teacher and arrange a time to make up the test after school. You will have one day to make-up work for every day you are absent.

7 WHILE YOU ARE WORKING: Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand the directions. If you didn’t understand, quietly ask for help from other students sitting around you. If you are asked to help, be polite and help. Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. Respect each other’s space and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

8 AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED WITH WORK:
Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Make sure your name is written on the sheet. If appropriate, read quietly in your seat.

9 USING CLASSROOM PROPERTY:
Pick up any garbage 2mm in diameter or more. Recycle papers (4x4 inches or more), plastic bags, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles. Do not intentionally deface school, personal, or other’s personal property.

10 DISMISSAL PROCEDURE: Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Stack chairs so that the classroom can be easily vaccumed. Mrs. Rohini will inspect desk area before releasing. Review agenda and make sure that you have written down your HW assignments. Wait in your seat for the teacher to dismiss you. Leave quietly, ONLY after you have been given permission to do so.

11 WHEN YOU HAVE AN EXCUSED TARDY:
Report to attendance office to get tardy slip. Enter the classroom quietly and go to your seat. You will not be excused from any work you missed. Quietly, get the assignment and do the work at home.

12 WHEN THERE IS A SUBSTITUTE:
We treat guests in our room as courteously or better than we treat Mrs. Rohini. Sit in your assigned seat ONLY. Maintain proper voice levels. Remain on task. Be helpful and courteous. Subs will report behaviors (good & bad) and proper consequences will be applied.

13 LINING UP TO LEAVE THE CLASSROOM:
Wait until your group is called Quietly push your chair under your desk Walk single file to the back of the classroom and around to the line at the door. Stand quietly with your hands to yourself Follow procedures for walking down the hallway as you leave and return to class

14 WALKING DOWN THE HALLWAY:
Be a positive role model for younger students. Follow the speed limit! Mrs. Rohini will dismiss individual tables to line-up at the door. Once we leave the room, you are entering a quiet zone. Always walk when moving down the hallways. Remain quiet and keep your hands to yourself. Stay to the right side of the halls and keep moving.

15 TAKING TESTS: Place all books and notebooks inside your desk
Make sure you have two sharpened pencils When directed to do so, quietly move your desk to your pre-designated testing area. Read the directions carefully If you have a question, raise your hand Give it your best effort When you are finished, turn your paper upside down. Once I have collected your paper, you may take out your independent reading book and read silently

16 CAFETERIA/LUNCH PROCEDURES:
All students will line up and walk quietly to the cafeteria as previously stated. Students that are not buying lunch will break off from the rest of the group in the cafeteria and walk to their designated seating area. On the first day, the teacher will walk these students to the table to show them where to go while the students that are buying lunch remain lined up against the wall. Students that are buying their lunch will be required to face front and pay attention so they can move as the line moves. As long as the students are in the cafeteria area, and they are paying attention, they will be allowed to talk to their neighbors. The teacher will facilitate this process by standing with the students until they have moved through the line. The students will proceed through the food line and get their drink and walk to the table and take an open seat. It is important to note, once seated, the students may not stand up for any reason – they must raise their hands and get the teachers attention when they need something.

17 BATHROOM PROCEDURES: Use the signal if you need to use the restroom
Sign in the bathroom log – put your name and time when you exit and enter You will not be allowed to use the restroom more than once unless there is an emergency ALL STUDENTS MUST WASH HANDS AFTER USING THE RESTROOM – 100% OF THE TIME!

18 FEELING ILL? If you are feeling ill or have been injured, please let Mrs. Rohini know immediately and we can discuss your options If you feel like you are about to “get sick” immediately go to the restroom – I will send a student to check on you. This applies to emergencies only. A first-aid kit (band-aids, etc) is located behind my desk – please ask before using.

19 Computer usage procedures:
Students may only use the computer during assigned computer time or morning jobs Students may only choose from teacher approved websites (see folder or list for approved sites) Internet “surfing” will not be permitted School Appropriate Use Policies must be followed at all times

20 HOW TO LEAVE THE CAFETERIA:
Students will be instructed to stand up as a table. The right side of the table will form a new line and walk to the disposal area. The left side of the table will wrap around the far side of the table and connect with the right side, creating one continuous line. After dropping off their trays and trash, students will follow the edge of the cafeteria to the end where they will wait in a line for the teacher. Students will be able to talk during lunch, but talking should be minimal while waiting in line. As students leave the cafeteria areas to head back to the classroom, there will be no talking allowed. Any student that brought his/her lunch will bring their lunchbox to the shelf. Any student with “leftovers” from a lunch that they bought must place it on the lunchbox shelf when they enter the classroom.

21 EMERGENCY DRILLS: Emergency Drills require complete silence and cooperation We will quietly line-up and exit the building and follow our exit route Mrs. Rohini will take you on a sample fire drill to show you where to line-up outside Please take all drills very seriously – one day they might not be drills!

22 MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: If you miss a school day or must leave early, most assignments can be made up Check the Day Drawer (for the Day you missed)for any worksheets or handouts that you might have missed Check the Classroom Agenda for any missed HW assignments Quizzes, Tests, and Labs can be made up after school – please make arrangements with Mrs. Rohini to schedule a day that works for you, your parents, and Mrs. Rohini.

If such items are brought to school, they must remain in student lockers during the school day, unless a teacher has given permission. Each year items "disappear".
