Jadalyn and skylar Do you think water can lift an object?

Purpose The reason I am doing this project is too see how water can be used to lift an object and what is hydropower.

Hypothesis Water is going to lift the weights because water makes the plastic fan spin like a motor to lift them.

Materials 1. A two liter soda bottle 2. Ruler 3. Marker 4. Craft knife
5. Scissor 6. Two corks 7. 1 BBQ skewer 8. sewing thread 9. 4 or 5 washers 10. Duct tape 11. Sink 12. Large funnel 13. Paper clips

Procedure First we got a 2-liter bottle and cut it into three pieces and each was eight centimeters wide. Then, we cut them in eight pieces. We got our craft knife and cut eight slits in one cork and we put the pieces of plastic in the slits. So we got the skewer and stuck the cork in the middle. We got the other cork and stuck it on the end. Then we made the paper clips into an S. We made a loop on the top of the paper clip, We stuck one end of the skewer in the paper clip, then we did that to the other side. We taped the paper clips to both sides, We tested it and it worked. It was cool but messy for sure. We tested it three times

Result We ran the water over the fan, the string attached to the cork with the washers went flying up and water went everywhere. We adjust the propeller fins so they were all pointing one direction. The water came out of the faucet causing the propellers to spin. This caused the weights attached to the string to be pulled up. We saw that water can be used to create energy to lift something.

Conclusion We had fun making this project, if we did it again, we would use duct tape instead of scotch tape because the tape fell off Our hypothesis was correct. Water did lift an object by spinning the propellers. This is called hydropower.

We would like to thank Mrs. Larsen for getting all the supplies.
