How to talk about things or people already mentioned-

2 Purpose What do direct objects do? - receives the action of the verb
answers the question whom or what? (say…subject, verb then whom or what?) no need to keep repeating, repeating, repeating!

3 D.O. vs. D.O. Pronouns Direct Objects
-can be replaced by a direct object pronoun -located after conjugated verb Direct Object Pronouns -replaces direct object in a sentence -3 possibilities for placement: before conjugated verb, attached to present participle or attached to an infinitive ***Can only have one or the other in a sentence***

4 Examples I have the books. Subject: I Verb: have
Whom or what: the books I have them. Whom or what: them

5 Ejemplos en español Yo tengo los libros. S: Yo V: tengo
Whom or what: los libros Yo los tengo. Whom or what: them

6 Direct Object Pronouns en español
Masculine/singular LO (him/it) Feminine/singular LA (her, it) Masculine/plural LOS (them) Feminine/plural LAS

7 Direct Objects Hold up the direct object pronoun you would use in place of the following: libros vecinos/vecinas comida mexicana amigos/amigas desayuno piscina el chicle el chocolate el español libro primo/prima un guante de béisbol las fiestas

8 ¡Práctica! My sister gives (dar) books to my uncle.
Does my sister give them to my uncle? Your grandmother doesn’t invite (invitar) her neighbors. She doesn’t invite them. You are eating Mexican food. You are eating it. She wants to leave (dejar) his friends. She wants to leave them. The students eat breakfast at school. Do we have to prepare it?
