 I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 191 with certificates in Special Ed. K-12 and General Education 1 – 8. I earned an add-on certification in English Second Language (ESL) in 2006.  This is my 20 th year of teaching and my 4 th year with Mrs. Bankston.

 We begin each day with Every Day Count skills. This reinforces conversion skills between fraction, decimals, and percents. Fractions should be reduced to lowest terms.  A Daily Activity Schedule is posted on the Procedures Board at the front of the classroom and on TeacherWeb.  We switch at 10:30 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesdays, we switch at 8:35. The switch time on Thursdays is 9:10. This time varies according to daily activities.

 Math 88 minutes/day 440/week  Science 45 minutes/day 225/week  Social Studies 45 minutes/day 225/week  I teach my Homeroom class Social Studies at the last period of each day.  I have attached a daily schedule to your packet of information.

 Academics: Students should use class time wisely. The Homework Board is filled out daily. Students are allowed to approach the board when recording the homework.  The following categories are used for recording grades: Tests 70%,  Class work / Completion grades 20%,  Minor Assignments (HW) 10%

 Raise hand and wait to be acknowledged before speaking.  Remain within your tidy work area.  Bring all supplies including books, writing tools, packets, binder, and organizational tools.  Tolerance should be exhibited at all times. Tolerance is defined as accepting the differences in others.

 I appreciate morning greetings when my name is used. I encourage students to learn the names of all duty teachers.  Students should use “Yes, Ma’am” and “No Ma’am” when appropriate.  Students are doing fine job of lining up quickly in alphabetic order for lunch. I hear many compliments and greetings as they follow the lunch procedures.

 Students should throw papers away when exiting the classroom.  A warning is given prior to receiving a TBR for a minor classroom infraction.  TBRs should be signed by parent/caregiver and returned the next day.  TBRs are placed within envelopes. They are not to be discussed in class.

 Certain behaviors are expected in an effort to maintain a SAFE and orderly classroom to optimize learning for ALL students.  A Daily Behavior Report Card can be developed to address 3-5 specific behaviors. This plan will be utilized after sufficient data has been collected.  The antecedent, behavior, and consequence will be reviewed in each behavior infraction. (A,B,C)

 Modifications /accomodations are in place for children as per IEP decisions.  An entire copy of your child’s current IEP would be greatly appreciated. It will remain confidential.  General education teachers are required to have input regarding IEPs.

 6 th Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) are posted at TeacherWeb and the Louisiana State Dept. of Ed. Site.  Students should answer EVERY part of a Constructed Response item. We want to see the Criterion Referenced Scores increased! (A, M, B, AB, UN)  Papers will be returned on Wednesdays, if not sooner.  Parents and students should check STI often.

 If you cannot remember your password, you can send a written request to Mrs. DiCarlo. Place your request in a sealed envelope with the HR teacher’s name.  Newly enrolled students will soon receive a password from our central office in Covington.

 Students are encouraged to work through the Math program with 80% accuracy on each topic.  Record the student’s password and username to check report data often.  Parents are welcome to work through the Math program WITH the child.  The public library has computers for public use. We’ll work something out.

 TEST announcements should be recorded in red ink.  Parents are asked to initial planners each evening. Please, ask to see the finished assignment.  Index cards, highlighters, circle important terms

 Email judy.pichon@stpsb.comjudy.pichon@stpsb.com  You’ll see a flashing EMAIL icon on TeacherWEb  Emails are checked daily; although, it is sometimes late at night.  Teachers should not use email to discuss specific behavior concerns.  We prefer to have conferences during our scheduled activity periods.

 Let us know your specific academic and /or behavior concerns prior to the conference.  We want to optimize the effectiveness of our “power conference.”  We will review past standardized scores.  You will receive a copy of notes.  STRATEGIES will be developed.

 Student ID numbers are required for online payments.  We can provide these ID numbers, if you are interested.

 Grading Policy  Expectations  Communication  Study Island, EAGLE  STI passwords  TeacherWeb

 Your presence this evening demonstrates your commitment toward establishing a positive relationship with your child’s teachers.  Please, take the time to introduce yourselves to the teachers of PE, Music, Band, Library, and Technology. They are certified educators preparing your children to be productive members of society. It’s a pleasure to with them.
