4 Anatomy of a Constructed Response  RACE!  Use this method to help create your constructed responses.  R=restate the question  A=answer the question  C=cite evidence from text to support your answer  E=explain your answer

6 BCR vs. DBQ vs. LBQ vs. Extended Response  What do all of the letters mean?  BCR= Brief Constructed Response  DBQ= Document Based Question  LBQ= Literature Based Question  Extended Response= A multi-paragraph constructed response that is usually just short of essay length and addresses the “points” to be discussed more quickly and more directly.  More brief than an essay since it is given in a test-like environment.

9 Creating a Constructed Response  You have been provided with a graphic organizer help you create your own constructed responses.  Your task:  Read the article “The Sharebots.”  Use the prompt below to fill in your RACE graphic organizer.  Explain whether the author's choice of words and phrases effectively describes the robots and their behaviors. In your response, use words and phrases from the passage that support your explanation. Write your answer on your answer document.

12 “Mission Possible”  You have received two texts: “Codetalking” and “The Navajo.”  Directions:  After reading both of the texts above, choose 3 of the prompts below. Using 1 sheet of notebook paper per prompt, re-create the RACE(S) graphic organizer on one side, and then write your full constructed response on the opposite side.  Requirements:  Each constructed response must be at least 3 paragraphs and no more than 5 paragraphs in length. Within your constructed response, you must highlight where you used citations from the original texts. Since you will be responding to three prompts, please use 3 different highlighter colors (blue, pink, green). Each color will refer to each prompt (for example, information used for prompt #1 will be in blue, information used for prompt number #3 will be in pink, etc.). Refer to the rubric to guide your work.

15 Homework  Read for 30 minutes.  Finish whatever you need to complete from today’s “Response to a Response” assignment.
