4 1. SELECT AND DEFINE THE RESEARCH PROBLEM What do I want to know about this topic 2. REVIEW OF PREVIOUS RESEARCH Review books/articles What have others written about the topic 3. FORMULATE A HYPOTHESIS A statement of relationship between two concepts 4. DEVELOP THE RESEARCH What type of research method to use 5. COLLECT AND ANALYZE THE DATA Analysis- The process through which data are organized so that comparisons can be made and conclusions drawn. 6. DRAW CONCLUSIONS AND REPORT FINDINGS How does the data relate to the hypothesis?

5 1. The researcher begins with a general approach rather than a highly detailed plan. The “HOW” and “WHAT”…not necessarily the “WHY” 2. The researcher has to decide when the literature review and theory application should take place. May take place after the data has been collected. 3. The study presents a detailed view of the topic. Small cases + more variables= DETAIL
