The String Orchestra The Band

Our String Orchestra includes 3 instruments from the STRING family… Violin Viola Cello

The VIOLIN is the highest sounding string instrument.

The VIOLA is the middle sounding string instrument. It is slightly larger than a violin. It has a pleasant mellow sound.

The CELLO is the lowest sounding string instrument.

The FLUTE is the highest woodwind instrument in our band. You make sound by blowing across the hole in the head joint.

The OBOE is a double reed instrument and has a very distinct sound.

The CLARINET is a single reed instrument with a mellow sound and a wide range of notes.

The TRUMPET is the highest sounding brass instrument, and has a very bright sound.

The FRENCH HORN is a mellow sounding instrument that you hold on your lap with one hand inside the bell.

The TROMBONE is the only instrument that uses a slide to change the notes.

The BARITONE is like a small tuba. It is the lowest sounding brass instrument in our school. Back to Families of Instruments in the Band

To play PERCUSSION in our Band, you have to learn how to play these instruments… The SNARE DRUM is the basic instrument where you learn to play rhythms only. You will play melodies on the BELLS. You will learn how to keep the beat for the entire Band using the BASS DRUM. Back to Families of Instruments in the Band
