3  Read page 704.  Who were Frost’s first teachers?  What was his early profession?  Describe the setting of much of Frost’s poetry.  Define blank verse and free verse  Tone  Imagery

4 “Mending Wall”  Read lines 1-4 and determine the number of stressed syllables in each line. Are these lines written in blank verse or free verse?  Using your knowledge of the setting, why is the wall made of stone?  Line 2 indicates that the ground swells and “…spills the upper boulders in the sun.” Explain the image created here. What is the significance of the image?

5 “Mending Wall”  Why do the two neighbors meet annually?  Explain the significance of line 15, “We keep the wall between us as we go.”  How are the stones described?  Describe each man’s position on the necessity of the wall.  What tone is created in lines 32-33?
