1 Spreadsheet Vocabulary Multimedia Lab Kathleen Pape

2 1. Spreadsheet A computer application that organizes data into rows and columns.

3 2. Cell Each individual box on the spreadsheet

4 3. Row The horizontal (across) layout of cells.

5 4. Column The vertical (up/down) layout of cells.

6 5. Cell Address The location of a cell on a spreadsheet, at the intersection of a row and column, (ex. A1 or G4)

7 6. Active cell The cell you are currently working in. When a cell is active, you can change it.

8 7. Data Entry Bar The bar at the top of a spreadsheet used to enter data or a formula.

9 8. Value A number that is entered into a cell

10 9. Label Data entered as text; the title of a row or column

11 10. Formula A mathematical statement which must always begin with an “=” sign and include a cell reference for calculations

12 11. Function A built-in formula included in most spreadsheet programs that makes it easy to perform common calculations.

13 12. Chart or Graph A graphic (visual) representation of data, such as a bar graph or pie chart.

14 13. Format The ability to change the font, style, size, color, and alignment of text; arrange the shape, size, type and general makeup of a cell or document.

15 14. Alignment Setting up cells so writing is at top, bottom, center, left or right side of the cell

16 15. Sort Arrange data in ascending or descending order

17 17 16. Table These are used to organize information using rows and columns of cells that you can fill with data 17
