2. Goal Label the verb and subject of each sentence. Label the direct object and indirect object of each sentence. Do not guess!!!!!!

3. Finding the verb All of these sentences have ……. action verbs----- Look for the word that you can do----- perform the action. VERB-------- underline twice Always underline am, is, are, was, and were, and any form of: do, had, been, can, will, shall if these words are located before the main verb

4. Subject Now to find the subject Ask yourself Who or what is doing that action in the sentence? the answer is your subject = underline once

5. On your paper Find the subjects and verbs for each sentence. Remember …… – action verbs----- Look for the word that you can do----- perform the action. (plus any: am, is, are, was, were) – Who or what is doing that action in the sentence?

6. Direct objects (DO) Receives the action of the verb. To find it say: Subject verb what? Example: Residents dislike what? – Answer noise. – Noise is the Direct object. – Label Direct objects “DO” – Capital letters please Label each DO at this time.

7. Indirect objects (IO) If there is one in the sentence, it is located after the verb and before the direct object. To find it say: Subject verb DO to or for whom/to what? Assistant handed wrench to/for whom/ to what? – Answer him – “him” is the indirect object – Label Indirect objects “IO” – Capital letters please
