3 Verbs must agree with their subjects A verb must agree with its subject in number. When a subject is plural, the verb must have a plural form; when the subject is singular, the verb must have a singular form. Singular Ex. The truck in the lot looks awesome. Plural Ex. The trucks in the lot look awful.

4 A pronoun and its antecedent agree when they have the same number and gender. A pronoun and the noun or other pronoun to which it refers, the antecedent, must agree in number (singular or plural). Singular Ex. A bird has its own language. Plural Ex. Birds have their own language.

5 Must agree with gender A pronoun also agrees with its antecedent in gender (masculine, feminine, or neuter). Ex. the boy and his sister ( masculine antecedent) the girl and her brother (feminine antecedent) the garden and its weeds (neuter antecedent)
