Practice- You Try Rally Coach 1.What is 6% of 19? 2. 27 is what percent of 150? 3.What percent of 40 is 9? 4. 24 is 32% of what number? 5.14% of what number is 7?

Sales tax and tip! Adding that little extra!

Vocabulary Sales tax

Sales

Sales Tax Method 1: 1)Calculate the tax of the total (% as decimal x total price) 2) Add tax to total 3)Check that it makes sense! Method 2: 1) Calculate the final price including the tax (total x 1+% as decimal, ex: 7% tax  x by 1.07) 2) Check that it makes sense! Discuss with your shoulder partner two different methods for calculating sales tax!

You try- Choose Your Method! What is the total cost of a sweatshirt if the regular price is $42 and the sales tax is 5 ½ %?

Vocabulary Sales tax Tip or Gratuity

Method 1: 1)Calculate the tip of the total (% as decimal x total price) 2) Add tax to total 3) Check that it makes sense! Method 2: 1) Calculate the final price including the tip (total x 1+% as decimal, ex: 20% tip  x by 1.2) 2) Check that it makes sense!

You try- Choose Your Method Scott wants to tip his taxicab driver. If his commute costs $15 and he wants to give the driver a 20% tip, what is the total cost?

Discount Saving some money!

Vocabulary Sales tax Tip or Gratuity Discount

Discounts Similar to Tip and Discount, but you subtract! Method 1: 1)Find the percent of the total (this is discount amount) 2)SUBTRACT the discount from the total 3)Check that it makes sense! Method 2: 1)Find the percent you will actually be paying by subtracting the given percent from 100% (example: 30 % off  100-30 = 70% you will pay) 2)Multiply the percent you will pay in decimal form by the total 3)Check that it makes sense!

You try- Choose Your Method 1)A shirt is regularly priced at $42. It is on sale for 15% off. What is the sale price of the shirt? 2)What is the total WITH 7% tax?

Wrap up! Describe two methods for finding the sale price of an item that is discounted 30%. Which method do you prefer? Explain.
