So how do we get there? U9 and U10 teams mirror our U11 goal. Two top teams and two lower teams at U11 sets up for teams at all three levels (C1/C2/C3) at U12 U9 and U10 team formation will start us down this road.

What are the problems we encounter with the new direction? We were not as dominant at the U9-U11 age groups At U11 We lost 3 players who were not interested in creating a strong age group as they couldn’t see past their own child’s winning record At U11 Our classic 3 teams struggled as more stronger players were pulled up to the top level We were overly strong at the U12 age group at two levels We had more teams playing classic 3 than we needed at U12 At U12 we lost 2 players who were searching for that quick classic 1 placement

What worked ? We developed a solid group of 20 players at U9-U11 At U13 we have a stepping stone and it is attainable with more opportunities for all players We did all of this with 99.5% non recruited players Although rostered at a level that was too low for the team the coaches entered the team into tournaments at a higher level The top team at each age level was put under pressure not just to contain the best players but to be the better team and outplay rather than out run, out muscle or even outscore the opponents This next year we are restructuring the master coach program and adding a Technical Coach to spend more time with players on the basic things As we have improved the top, stabilized the middle our job over the next year is to push the lower half harder

GOAL: Opportunities at all levels at U13 C1C2C3 2009 2010 r 2011 C1C2C3 2009 2010 2011 U13 Boys were relegated after a difficult fall season

Playing Time Playing time in the competitive program is earned not guaranteed. If a player attends practices and demonstrates a high work rate then that player is entitled to play. If a player cant make practice it is their responsibility to let the coach know. CC United coaches do not look to develop a strong line up to win games. They will strive to develop the team and the committed players within to be as competitive as possible We will strive to win not to win at all costs

Introduction Beginning the winter program 2010 CC United coaches will be given goals and objectives for their teams. The coaches’ objectives are not only to ensure that each player receives the correct amount of age appropriate technical training but it will also serve as a form of self evaluation for each of the players. The objectives will be achieved by following the age group calendar. The calendar ensures that all U13+ players are exposed to the correct amount of technical tactical and functional skills training to complete their development. The coach will set progressive objectives as players improve through appropriate technical/ tactical ability levels. The coaches must understand that basic technical and tactical skills training are the base for a successful team. Time will be spent coaching positive techniques stressing the importance of maintaining possession successfully or creating and converting scoring opportunities Also being introduced will be function training; Players will be exposed to the correct ratio of functional practices and small sided games. Small sided games (3v3, 4v4) will be utilized to develop technique through repetition in game contact and functional practices, 8v8 or coaching a back four, will be utilized to develop the players understanding of technique in relation to the game. Functional training is the why where and how of the game through phases of play January through April will be organized so that as the season begins each player will have received sessions in a high repetition of techniques (passing/dribbling/receiving). Up to the start of the season April May we will continue focusing on techniques, but introduce the game through small sided games 3v3, 4v4 leading into functional training to improve team understanding and game weaknesses. This will both challenge the player’s individual ability and also improve their knowledge of team play within the game. At U13+ 11v11, time will be spent working on defending and attacking through functional practice. The coach must strive to help improve the player’s ability to win possession through correct tactics, i.e. distance to the ball speed of approach and patience. Coaches will stress the importance of shape and positional awareness (where you are on the field and who you cover on the field. Functional training incorporates midfielders, forwards and defenders in groups

2010 problems Practice Fields Play ups Still over coaching from the sidelines Not enough practices Parents are uneducated Unused Master coaches

To the parents of the U14 Girls team This past week in our two practices we worked on passing back to the goalkeeper and long distance passing. One major weakness that they can work on by themselves is being able to hit long passes with both feet. The only cure for an inability to do so is repetition For our long distance passing we worked on the position of the non kicking foot and the striking area of the ball. Most of the girls were able to pass the ball across the width of the field. This is something they can strive to complete by the end of the season with both feet. Please try to recognize the difference between a long distance pass and a boot up the field. A pass is purposeful and to someone’s feet or to a specific space that they can run onto The reason we pass back to the goalkeeper is to eliminate pressure from an opponent that plays constant long passes or boot ball. Most teams we play against just kick the ball out in panic or try to turn. Turning in this situation is risky as the player on the ball cannot see the field and booting it out gives the ball to the other team closer to our goal. We want our kids to be comfortable in this high pressure environment. The problem on receiving the pass is that the goalkeeper cannot use her hands so we then need our supporting players to get wide and get ready to receive the ball. If we are successful we will eliminate teams that only play direct and we also draw the opponents closer to our goal creating more space closer to theirs. This style may create mistakes that are costly so please be ready to support the player who attempts this as the rewards far outweigh the risks. Between now and the next game try to watch a game of soccer with your daughter and see how the professional teams use their goalkeeper In our next game if our players make a long pass or show body language to pass back to the goalkeeper then they have been successful Jonathan Tudor Director of Coaching CC United Soccer Club Jonathantudor@comcast.net 612 889 0668 www.ccunitedsoccer.com To the parents of the U17 boys team For our last practice we worked on playing low pressure defending Low pressure uses high numbers to eliminate high skill. The object is to have an imaginary line on the field and when the opponents cross that line with a pass or a dribble we pressure the ball. Up until that point our forward players look to channel (Guide) the opponents to one side of the field. The remainder of our players will be getting compact and ready to attack the ball as soon as it passes our line. On winning the ball we may look to counter by passing the ball as quickly as possible to one of our forwards who are closest to goal. If you see an uneducated parent on our sideline and they are not aware of this email it will seem to them like our back line are not interested as they are waiting for the ball to come into the pressurizing zone Please help them The team we are playing are much stronger than we are and on our last encounter beat us 8-0 and are the former state champions. if we are able to keep the game competitive we have been successful Jonathan Tudor Parent Education

U13+ Game Objectives

Game Objectives Introduction When teams play, the players, coaches and parents all walk away with one thing in common knowledge. The result and how it happened. Who scored the goals, what the referee did and what other outside factors were in play to affect the score of the game. They focus on how their child played and praise their performance without understanding the requirements are in any one position on the field. Starting 2008 the coaches and players at CC United will look to achieve certain objectives in each game. The Objectives will not only aid their team performance but will also look to give players a better understanding on how the team works and how to play their position. This will also put more pressure on the coach, who must devise a practice during the week to work on the game objective. For many years the coach has always taken the team away from the parents leaving them unaware on what has been worked on or the development process the players go through. Understanding the game is a massive concept and is one that is too big to try and tackle in one piece. Procedure Each week the coach will work on a theme and lead it into a game objective. The game objectives are listed in order that the players need to accomplish. It may be possible to achieve more than one objective in a game. The coach will move on when the team demonstrates a recognition of when/ how to execute In the following slides are a list of game objectives. The coach will replace the formation with players names and print a copy for the players before each game. The players then share this information with the parents.

Game Objective 1 To maintain our Total team shape 1-4-4-2 Our shape expands in possession, covering as much of the field that can be passed to in relation to the teams leg strength and constrict in defense with players making distance adjustments based on the quality in certain positions that the opponents have Our Shape (including GK) should move forward and backwards in relation to the ball

Game Objective 2 To get the outfield players comfortable in changing positions during the game whilst maintaining our team shape 1-4-4-2

Game Objective 3 To get the back players comfortable in playing back to the goalkeeper Note: As the ball is going back to the keeper the fullbacks are getting wide to make a diamond. The keepers next decision will be based on how the opponents react Ball Player GK

Game Objective 4 To get full backs into the attack To have the remaining defenders provide cover when the fullbacks go forward

Game Objective 5 To get the central defender into attack To do this the midfielders have to make room and the defenders fill in the space

Game Objective 6 To switch the ball from one side to the other to create better attacking options To do this we need width, depth and team awareness from our central players To improve the effectiveness of this the player receiving the final pass needs to be the widest on the team stretching the opponent out creating gaps to play forward Ball Player

Game Objective 7 To Switch fields and get a fullback to overlap The team first needs good team shape and the players be able to get the ball across the field. The Fullback has to time their run as the ball is coming across Ball Player

Game Objective 8 To Get the forwards to work movement combinations Forward movement will distract the opposing back line and create space for a 3 rd player to run into or for the forward The movement must be timed and made as the passer is receiving the ball Ball Player Forwards Criss Cross

Game Objective 9 To Get the forwards to work movement combinations Forward movement will distract the opposing back line and create space for a 3 rd player to run into or for the forward The movement must be timed and made as the passer is receiving the ball Ball Player Short and Long

Game Objective 10 To Get the forwards to work movement combinations Forward movement will distract the opposing back line and create space for a 3 rd player to run into or for the forward The movement must be timed and made as the passer is receiving the ball Ball Player High and Low

Game Objective 12 To make a pass into a checking forward The forward has to start in a high position and check back into the pocket between forward and midfield. The forward needs to be aware of pressure and his supporting forward Ball Player

Game Objective 13 To fill the space that the forward has come out of.(3 rd player running). If the forward is threatening enough he will draw pull in an opponent and create space for a player running through. The running through pla

Game Objective 14 To get the fullbacks to successfully zonal Defend To be Successful the other 3 defenders must come across to cover. Team mates must be in a position to cover and still see the opposing forwards. Note: The Right defender is defending on the left side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support Ball Player

Game Objective 15 To get the Centre defenders to zonal Defend The central defenders work in a piston movement in that when one moves up the other moves back to cover. The Fullbacks compact the middle and try to force the ball away from the goal. Note: The Centre defender is defending on the right side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support Ball Player

Game Objective 16 To get the outside midfield players to zonal defend To be Successful the other 2 midfielder must come across to cover and compact the field. Note: The defender is defending on the right side of the ball sending the red player to the covering midfielder.

Game Objective 17 To get the central midfielders to zonal defend The central midfield players work in a piston movement in that when one moves up the other moves back to cover. The wide midfielders compact the middle, block passing lanes to the forwards and try to force the ball wide.

Game Objective 8 To get the back players to react defensively off the midfield pressure 1 Note: The defender is defending on the right side of the ball sending the red player to the side with less support. The right defender gets in a position to cover and the three other defenders shift across

Game Objective 18 To get the back players to react defensively off the midfield pressure 2 Note: The midfield players have left a passing lane open centrally so the back players compact the middle as that is where the pass will be made

Game Objective Corners To create a goal scoring opportunity from Corners Movement is made after the number has been called Targets have the option of controlling the ball or allowing it to run through to secondary players. The players who don’t take the shot are prepared to follow up for rebounds 1 2 3 1/2/3 are all targets the others are positions that need taking up to get ready for the shot or a pass

Game Objective Free kicks To create a better goal scoring opportunity from our Free kicks All other free kicks should be looked to be passed short and quickly 2 4 Option 1 is the shot Option 2 is the ball to the running player Option 3 is to the player at the side Option 4 is the pass to the player standing in the wall who can either shoot or set up 3 or kicker 3 All movement occurs when the player puts the ball down

Game Objective To create an open player from a throw in 1. The receiving player is marked so he spins and runs into the space behind Ball Player

Game Objective To get 2 nd player movement from a throw in 1.The receiving player is marked and spins and is followed by his defender 2.The player that was far away checks into the space Ball Player
