2 Graduation Requirements Eng Lang Arts– 4 credits Social Studies – 3 credits Science – 2 credits Math – 3 credits –Algebra 1 –Geometry –Advanced Algebra Health/PE 2.5 Credits –Health 0.5 –PE 1.5 –Health/PE 0.5 Fine Arts – 1 credit Career & Technical Education (CTE) – 1 credit Electives – 5 credits Career Education & Culminating Project– 1 credit Pass SBA ELA & Math Exams Pass Science End of Course Assessment

3 4-Year College Entrance Requirements English – 4 credits Math – 3 credits (minimum of Algebra 1, Geometry, AND Adv Algebra) Senior Year Quantitative Course – 1 credit Social Studies – 3 credits Science – 2 credits lab science, one credit of Algebra based science (Chemistry or Physics) Fine Arts – 1 credit World Languages – 2 credits of the same language ACT/SAT score (take spring of 11 th grade)

4 Credit Retrieval GK Online Credit Retrieval (FuelEd) –$70 per 0.5 credit ($50 reduced lunch, $30 free lunch) –English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science GK ALEKS Math Credit Retrieval –$70 per class ($50 reduced lunch, $30 free lunch) –Algebra 1 through Pre-Calculus BYU Online –Approximately $150 per 0.5 credit –Core classes and elective classes. Summer School –Information available in April See your counselor for enrollment information/paperwork..

5 11 th Grade Courses English Language Arts 11 OR AP Language & Composition US Studies OR AP US History Math Science (recommended) Electives/courses needed for graduation/college entrance

6 Advanced Placement AP students will take an AP test in May – approximately $95 AP test fee Interested students must read and sign the AP contract. Scores of 3,4, or 5 may earn college credit or waivers at college level AP is a predictor of completion of a 4-year college degree. Don’t take too many AP and/or challenging classes!

8 College in the High School Earn college credit from the University of Washington. Cost: approximately $370 GKHS Courses: –The Biology of Addiction and the Brain –Computer Science

9 New Courses Human Body Systems –Credit: CTE, Lab Science, Health, or Elective 1.0 –Prerequisite: Successful completion of Principles of the Biomedical Sciences –This class replaces Applied Anatomy & Physiology. Spanish for Native Speakers 1 –Credit: Elective 1.0 –Prerequisite: Ability to understand and communicate verbally and be able to write simple basic sentences in Spanish. Results of placement test.

10 Pierce County Skills Center Technical programs to earn college and high school credit. Attend GK 3 class periods and attend PCSC 3 class periods. GK Course Selection Forms – check on PCSC line and choose GK courses for next year. PCSC applications are online. Will be accepted beginning March 1. PCSC Open House – February 18, 5:30–7:00 pm Pizza, Pop & Power Tools - February 25, 6:00 - 7:30

12 Running Start COMPASS– $15 at Pierce College; must score into college level reading & writing GK Course Selection Forms – check on Running Start line and choose GK courses for next year. Student Running Start Meeting – March 15, during study support in the auditorium Parent Running Start Meeting – March 17, 6:30 PM at GKHS.

13 Login to Career Cruising Check –Grade Level –Credit Area –Prerequisites Courses are for entire school district. Use your GKHS Course Offerings List (page 2 of course selection packet) for courses available to GKHS students.

15 Fill Out the Form Correctly Locker Request – Check the box and list your locker partner to request a locker for next year. Course Selection Forms and CC Course Planner are due in Careers class by March 4. Don’t forget a parent signature. Sign the AP Contract if signing up for an AP class. YOU MUST HAVE A PARENT SIGNATURE ON YOUR FORM PRIOR TO TURNING IT IN!!!!! Counselors will choose courses for students who have not turned in completed forms by March 4.
