1. Using Movie Maker Created by: Stephanie Anderson Dublin Unified School District Dublin, California

2. Begin your project by importing video or pictures.

3. Your imported media will appear in the window.

4. The “show timeline” button showing (which means that it is in story board format) is easiest for pictures, and the “show storyboard button showing is easiest for video. Drag and drop video or pictures from the gallery.

5. Video often imports in clips. Drag and drop them in order. If you would like to edit your video, drag the blue line to where you want to make a cut.

6. Try clicking the plus sign by the video to get more information about your clip. To delete certain sections of the movie, move the blue “scrubber” line to the desired location. Hit “Ctrl L” or from the menu choose “Clip” then “Split” Your movie has now been segmented into different parts. Split the clip again at the desired location to give you multiple segments, then click on the segment you wish to take out and hit delete.

7. If you are using a clip from Discovery Education and you want to have your own narration you need to mute the audio. To do this, highlight the clip. Click “Clip” “Audio” and then “Mute”. Repeat for each segment you want muted

8. To narrate your timeline, click “Tools” then “Narrate Timeline”. When you are ready to begin click “Start Narration”. After you are finished save the narration You can also just press the microphone button on the video bar.

9. With either video or pictures you can play with the effects and transitions. Everything is drag and drop. Also don’t forget to use the credits page to cite sources and give credit to yourself as the movie maker!

10. You can play your movie back while editing pictures or video. View it in the window to the right. When you are finished click “Save to my computer”. Also, save your movie often as I have experienced that Movie Maker likes to freeze.

11. And Last… If you would like to have an audio file with music in the background or multiple tracks, you need to use a separate audio system like Garage Band or Audacity. When done, import the audio track into Movie Maker. But that’s whole other ball of wax…
