2. In December of your Senior year you should have…  1. Taken your ACT at least twice  2. Applied & sent your transcripts to at least three schools of your choice  3. Begun or Finished a college resume  4. Started thinking about Letters of Recommendation  4. Started applying for scholarships

3. College Resume’s  Simple is best!  Leadership  Honors and Achievements  Athletics  Extracurricular Activities  Church and Community Activities  ALL SHOULD BE IN LISTING FASHION You can get a template in the counselor’s office

4. Letter’s of Recommendation  What are they? Letter’s of recommendation are Positive statements and opinions of character that others make about you.  Who writes them? It is nice to have three letter’s of recommendation at your disposal. People who you may ask are, for example, a teacher, a minister, a person you have worked for, or someone you know who holds an a place of respect in your community.  How do I ask for one? Email seems to be newest and quickest way to ask for a recommendation. It is imperative that when asking someone to write a letter of recommendation for you that you provide that person with the following:  1. a copy of your resume which includes your GPA  2. your full name, email address, and the date by which you would like to receive the letter.  3. what type of letter you would like. For example: a general character reference, a work reference, an athletic reference, a talent reference… etc…

5. Northeast Community College  Applications are now available for Northeast  Scholarship Applications are now available for Northeast and everything is electronic (online)  Scholarship Deadline for Northeast is FEBRUARY 1

6. HOLD ON TO YOUR KNICKERS!  Scottsboro High School has adopted a new procedure of ranking students at the end of their senior year. In the past, we have recognized only the top 10% in each graduating class at Commencement regardless of how fabulous the GPA’s of the students who ranked below them were. This year we are moving to a Latin Honors System that will reward and recognize EVERY senior who has earned ‘excellence status’ throughout their years at Scottsboro High School.
