5.09.2006V. Bobillier1 Cable installation status

5.09.2006V. Bobillier2 Long distance links installation (from CH to PP) Work progress (cable pulling) : Velo service cables (motion, cooling and vacuum ctrl) done Calorimeter : All cables done Muon : All cables done except some HV cables (due to late ordering). All sub-detectors : Cables for Maraton LVPS (pwr + ctrl) done Links to bunker racks : done Remaining main tasks : Velo, TT, Rich1 cable pulling Cutting cable at right lengths Installation of all connectors Installation of optical fiber cables Tests of all cables Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier3 Long distance links installation (from CH to PP) Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier4 Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier5 Long distance links installation (from CH to PP) Missing information and material : For all long distance links: Cable allowance on both ends.  Use Rackwizard to enter that in the cable DB. If information is not in rackwizard on time we will simply not be able to cut your cables at the right lengths and install connectors. Reminders will be made individually to sub-detector rackwizard responsible 2 weeks prior to deadline. Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier6 Long distance links installation (from CH to PP) Missing information and material : For specific sub-detector cables : Precise drawings are required (with detailed explanation when particular care must be taken). This is particularly important for certain connectors. Good examples of cable drawings can be found here : https://edms.cern.ch/nav/EDA-01313 https://edms.cern.ch/nav/EDA-01314 Specific connectors must be received at pit 8 one week before they are planed to be installed. Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier7 Patch cord cables (in CH and from PP to sub-det) REMINDER “Who is responsible for what” : Cable ordering: Sub-detectors Cable installation: Sub-detectors with help from CERN (to be discussed case by case in more detail). Connectors: Sub-detectors with help from CERN (to be discussed in more detail). Exception : TELL1 boards: sub-detectors only have to take care of MPO patch cords. Further discussions are needed with sub-detectors requiring help for installation ! Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier8 Patch cord cables (in CH and from PP to sub-det) Who does what: Rich: Cabling done by themselves OT: Same Calorimeter: Same Muon: Not defined yet. ST: Help from CERN needed (to be discussed more precisely) Velo: Help from CERN needed (to be discussed more precisely) Things to consider before cable pulling when done by sub-detectors: Identify cable duct covers before removing them (easier to remount them) Store them in a safe place (to avoid people walking on it) Protect sharp angles and edges in the ducts (plastic joint and tape) Pull thick cables first (Identify cables) Cabling

5.09.2006V. Bobillier9 All racks other than TELL1 in CH and in cavern Remaining main tasks : Big mechanical work still to be done in all other non-TELL1 racks. This means : Sub-detectors must define the rack layout in rackwizard. Buy required equipment (deflector, heat exchangers, etc if standard recuperated ones are not ok). Rack internal cabling must be thought (equipment size, front/rear connection, air flow and other constraints must be taken into account). Metallic side plates have to be cut at right length and installed (fixed layout needed). Sliding bars have to be mounted (fixed layout needed). When standard HE, deflectors are used they can be installed (fixed layout needed). Goal: Have the racks prepared as much as possible so it can be nearly “plug and play” to install your equipments. If information is not received well in advance we will not be able to prepare your racks mechanically ! Planning: We need to know when you plan to come to pit 8 with the first equipment ? Racks and crates

5.09.2006V. Bobillier10 All racks other than TELL1 in CH and in cavern For the moment, all other racks look like that : No side plates for air flow No internal support for cables No sliding bars No heat exchangers No flexible cooling pipes connecting HE No deflectors Already a turbine (as we receive them and there is no much choice where to install them) If information is not received on time, your racks may look like that when you come with electronics equipment ! Racks and crates

5.09.2006V. Bobillier11 Very simple conclusion : Use rackwizard to enter all information concerning your rack layout and cabling. Make precise drawing of specific cables (with explanations when particular care must be taken) Get the connectors (and special tools when needed) for long distance links to pit 8. Conclusion If we do not have information on time, racks and cables might look like that when you come at pit 8 with your equipment…!
