3 Fetal Development Around the ninth week, the baby’s body begins to grow and is now called a fetus until birth. During the fetal stage, the fetus increases in length and weight Stages of fetal development are divided in trimesters

4 Last stages of pregnancy When the baby is almost due, the mother goes into labor First, the woman experiences pain caused by muscles in the uterus When cervix is dilated, the second stage begins and muscle contractions begin to push the baby through the cervix Last stage occurs when the baby is born and the placenta is pushed out
