4. ELA Continued  Students should be reading for 40 minutes every night. I will keep tracking this through Accelerated Reader.  Each month I take the average of all AR tests taken over that month and enter it into the gradebook as an AR grade. Many students are ending up with zeroes because they are not taking AR tests.  Monthly book reports have started! The format of the book report will be determined as we go!  We will continue to take Reading Street tests every other Friday.  Words Their Way is done at school. Students can request an extras list if they want to practice at home.

11. Science/Social Studies Quarter 3 MIKE MILLER

12. Social Studies We are finishing the 13 Colonies and will study the Revolutionary War. We will also be studying the United States Constitution. We will also begin preparing and rehearsing for our 13 Colonies Play! The play performances will be in May! More information will be given out as we get closer!

13. Science  Investigating the Human Body with a focus on the Skeletal System, Muscular System and Nervous System.  This quarter will include a research paper on a historic scientist and their contribution to science.  It wouldn’t hurt to start brainstorming ideas for the Science Fair! Every 5 th grade will be required to participate! The science fair is tentatively scheduled for May 4 th.

14. Parent Teacher Conferences  Parent Teacher Conferences are much earlier this year. They will be held during Monday, February 8 th – Thursday, February 11 th.  We love to meet with parents to discuss progress, but please keep in mind that if you your students is performing well, you are not required to come to conferences. If you have questions or concerns regarding your student, we recommend that you schedule a conference.
