2 5 th Grade Department Reading and Social Studies - Mrs. Peter Mrs. Wilson Math and Science – Mrs. Weger Mrs. Stiegel SPLASH – Mrs. Morales and Mrs. Hiatt

3 Student Planner Planners should be taken home and returned to school daily. It is the student’s responsibility to see that this is done. All homework is written down in their planner in class, each day. Homework Helpers are sent home on Mondays. These list vocabulary, learning targets, upcoming activities, and test dates. These must be signed by the student and parent and returned on Friday.

4 Conferences Please send a note or an email to request a conference at any time during the school year. First Nine Weeks Parent-Teacher Conferences be held October 12 through October 23. We will also have student led conferences. You will receive more information about this in the next few weeks.

5 Homework Students are held accountable for their homework. It does represent a portion of their grade, so failure to do so will have a negative effect on the final grade. Each night, students must read at least 20 minutes. Projects will also be given throughout the school year in all subjects.

10 Science Interactions of matter and energy Changes in matter with heating and cooling Understanding of weather patterns and phenomena Understanding the interdependence of plants and animals within their ecosystem. _ Understanding force, motion and the relationship between them. Understanding structures and systems of organisms performing life functions.

11 Grading ABSS uses formative and summative assessments. –Some class work and all homework are considered to be formative assessments. Formative assessments are used to help students improve by providing practice for students and guidance for instruction. –Summative assessments are used to measure student achievement and determine grades. These assessments will have a grade on them and that grade will be used towards the average on the report card. –Grades are based on a 10 point scale. –Progress reports will be sent home at the halfway mark and reports cards will be sent home every 9 weeks.
