TECHNOLOGY BY:LUIS CEPEDA Per 4/5 iPad & Fly Pen Fusion Current Events Project #2

iPAD The iPad, beautifully designed by Steve Jobs and the Apple Industrial Design Group located in Cupertino California. Its Capabilities and possibilities are endless. Beginning With its 9.7 inch multi-touch screen with LED-backlight is just breath taking. Also with its 1Ghz Apple A4 custom processor gives you the nice and reliable blazing fast speed for any tasks. The iPad is a Revolutionary product on the market used by hundreds of companies and millions of consumers worldwide. The Reason for the iPad was to create a laptop with a touch screen that was light-weight and portable.

How can this change the classroom? Well the Ipad has built in Wi-Fi so you can surf the web where ever there is a wireless router or access point. The iPad also has this feature that comes with it and its called notes. This would be helpful to write something quick down maybe a formula or something. Surfing the web on the iPad is easy especially if we have an assignment were we need the internet for it.

The Apple App Store has thousands of apps available. There is bound to be at least one app that relates to math. But wait there is. I came upon this article while doing my research and it is called: The Top 10 iPod Touch Apps to Use in Math Class By: Jonathan Willie

Basically in this article it talks about the top 10 apps to use in a math class and what they do. These were the apps:://www.brighthub.com/education/k- 12/articles/63422.aspx#ixzz14MnbrrL Basic Math Math Drills Math Tutor iFormulasNumber Line Sudoku Quick Graph Touch Calc. TanZen Units

I actually tested these apps on my iPod Touch. The app that caught my eye the most was the “Quick Graph”. The reason it caught my eye was because it is 3d. You can zoom in and out if you wanted to get closer and you can maneuver around the points. This could be very helpful in Algebra. Most apps that are out for the iPhone or iPod Touch are also formatted to fit the iPad’s screen.

Fly Pen This is not your average pen. The Fly Pen introduced by Leapfrog in July 5 2007, changed the pen like the iPhone did to the phone. What this pen can do is just amazing. It’s the second version for the Fly Pen 1.0. The Fusion has a little camera at the end of the pen to see what your writing. Something you probably didn’t know about this pen is that you can play a piano or even a drum set on it. Oh yeah I said it you can literally draw a piano or drum set and play them by touching the drum or key. Not only can you do this but also you can draw your self a calculator that works! People would have never imagined to use a calculator on a piece of paper. But there is special paper that is associated with this pen and that is called fly paper. You can only use this pen with that paper. Fusion

Fly Pen And that’s not it, there are other special features that you might not have noticed. In my last slide I showed a picture of the pen, and on the top of the pen there are special cartridges that can be removed and changed. The cartridge slot is for cartridges with pre-installed programs you can buy for it like you would a video game for a PS3 or Xbox. There are cartridges like Algebra, Math Comp, Multiplication & Division, French and Spanish. These programs all have mini games and quizzes in them. So they can help you prepare for real test in the classroom. Also you can take note with the pen and what I mean by this is you set it into note mode and everything you write is recorded into the pens internal memory. Then you can go home and load it up onto your computer with the special software that came with the pen. And how it can change the classroom

Plummeting Things that are and will plummet are books pencils, notebooks and pens. The reason for this is the iPad can easily take quick notes. It can also have books on it witch would make larger books like textbooks look like fools. As well for the Fusion it can take notes and do far more than a regular pen. And its fun so people would rather buy this pen than other lame pens that all they can do is just write.

New Advancements in Coming Years In the iPad their thinking about adding FaceTime and a front facing camera. I heard a rumor that they had the iPad with the camera but it had so many bugs so they took it out of the iPad but not the system. And for the Fly Fusion it was intended for kids teenagers right? Well Leap Frog is working on making one for COLLEGE STUDENTS for the Future.

Conclusion Well technology has come a long way from the worlds first computer weighing about 30 tons to the iPad weighing about 1.6 pounds. And from a dip pen to a pen top computer. Technology is what keeps our world running. You cant imagine a life without it. It makes our life easier in education and in life. What interested me about my topic was that I already have the pen so I thought it would be cool to use it. And for the iPad I am just a big fan of apple and I really really really want one. I really didn’t learn nothing from my topic because I knew mostly everything about both my topics. I think we could use these two technologies during test and pods or maybe even during notes. I would like to know if either company would give us free iPads or Fly Pens to us Magnet Students. XD So as for my two technologies that’s how they could change the future in the classroom.
