2. Formation of the affirmative forms of the Passive Voice We form the Passive Voice Construction with the help of the verb “to be” and the Past Participle (Verb 3) of the main verb: ex. Our office is cleaned twice a week; We are taught English; I am usually invited to this conference.→ The Present Simple Passive.

Formation of the affirmative forms of the Passive Voice The Passive verb forms are: Present Simple: am/is/are + V3 ; Past Simple: was/were + V3 ; Future Simple: shall/will + be+ V3 ; Present Continuous: am/is/are + being + V3; Past Continuous: was/were + being + V3 ; Present Perfect: have/has + been + V3 ; Past Perfect: had + been + V3.

4. Formation of the interrogative and negative forms of the Passive Voice We form questions (interrogative forms) by putting the forms of the verb “to be” before the subject: ex. Is your car being serviced now ? We form negations (negative forms) with the help of the word “not”: ex. The furniture hasn’t been delivered yet.

5. The Use of “the Passive Voice” construction We use the Passive Voice Constructions when we want to show that the action of the verb is more important then the person who carries out the action; remember : The agent (the person who carries out the action) is introduced with the preposition “by” and is mentioned only when the identity of the agent is very important or needs to be stated

6. The Use of “the Passive Voice” construction The agent is not mentioned when: a)It is unknown: ex. Jim’s car was stolen last night; b)It is unimportant: ex. Olive oil is produced in Mediterranean countries; c) It is obvious from the context: ex. The bank robbers are being chased at the moment.
