2 2 Future simple n Form: n will (not) + infinitive without TO will = ʼ ll, will not = won‘t n shall = will (used with I or we) n I will help you. n He won‘t help you. n Will you help me? Yes, I will. No, I won‘t. (= impolite) n Will you help me? Yes, of course. No, sorry, I can‘t. (= polite)

3 3 | Future simple – Use (1) 1) It expresses a future fact. –Example: She‘ll be 50 in two weeks. 2) Prediction based on an opinion. –Example: I don‘t think she will win the match. I won‘t probably come. –with words: probably, perhaps, I expect, I‘m (not) sure, I (don‘t) think, I wonder, I believe, I am afraid, in my opinion

4 4 Future simple – Use (2) 3) We decide to do st. at the time of speaking. –Example: I‘ve left the door open. I‘ll go and shut it. 4) In these situations: offering to do st., promising to do st., agreeing to do st., asking sb. to do st. –Example: I‘ll help you with the heavy bag. I won‘t tell anybody what has happened - I promise. Will you shut the door, please?

5 5 Future simple – Use (3) 5) In the first conditional sentence (or time clause for future): If st. happens, st. else will happen. –Example: If I find your keys, I‘ll tell you. She will invite him to the party when she meets him.

6 6 Future „Going to“ n Form: n the form of „be“ + „going to“ + infinitive without TO n Use: n 1) Prediction based on a present fact St. is going to happen as a result of st. happening now. Ex. Look at those black clouds. It‘s going to rain soon. She‘s pregnant. She‘s going to have a baby next month. n 2) Intentions, plans, decisions for the future Example: Ann is in hospital, so I‘m going to visit her tomorrow.

7 7 Present Continuous for the future n Use: n Definite future arrangements that usually refer to the near future. (We talk about people! The other people already know about it! Everything is already arranged!) n Example: I cannot come to school yesterday, I am going to the dentist. We are going out with John tonight.

8 8 Present Simple for the future n Use: n We talk about timetables and programmes. (We don‘t talk about people!) n Example: The bus to Prague leaves Liberec in 20 minutes. The concerts starts at 8 o‘clock this evening.
