Workshop: Students will complete the graphic organizer and write a literary analysis comparison paragraph using the information that was gathered. 4 #11 Juxtaposed Sentence 2/5/2016 Defn: Normally unassociated ideas, words, or phrases that are placed next to one another (juxtaposed) thus creating an effect of surprise and wit. Write one example:  Little children skipping on the lawn: a field of butterflies dancing in the wind.  Adolescents crawling under covers when the alarm rings: insects scattering when the rock is overturned.  A classroom full of children at their desks; a basket full of puppies tumbling over one another.  Create your own example

8 Foil: In fiction, a foil is a character who contrasts with another character (usually the protagonist) in order to highlight particular qualities of the other character.

9 HOT Questions  How do the Costello characters make the Fishers more complex characters?  How does the Costello’s perspectives affect the reader’s understanding of the Fishers?  Why does the author choose to create characters that are so different?  Why does the author create the Costello characters and keep them static?  Why does the author choose to create characters that are so different?

10 Homework-Don’t forget  Consequences Journal Entry to page 199 by Thursday, Feb. 5.  You must have at least 5 choices/consequences filled out. More will improve your grade.

The Costello brothers have a relationship based on love and respect while the Fisher brothers have a relationship based on intimidation and fear.  EX: The Costello brothers have a relationship based on love and respect while the Fisher brothers have a relationship based on intimidation and fear.  Bad, good, strong, weak are not sufficient. They are not specific.  Now use the text evidence you gathered from the graphic organizer to create your analytic paragraph.

(foils)  Label them (the first word-not the whole sentence)  Submit to Net school again (same assignment)

16 Peer Revision  Share with your family. Family members make comments as necessary.  Now share with another family.  Do they explain how the sibling relationships are different?  Do they have quotes that prove their answers? Do they explain those quotes?  Do their sentences make sense?  Does their conclusion make you think? (No rhetorical questions)  Resubmit to rough draft
