Activity #1 Electric Energy

KWL We use electricity in different ways Electricity travels through circuits and always ends up in the ground. Electricity creates light. Conductors are things that allow electricity to flow. Measured by volts Switches allow electricity to flow. How does electricity get stored in light bulbs? How do circuits travel? How does electricity move through a body? Where does electricity come from?

Goals Review and describe basic electric circuits and their components (series and parallel). Create an electric circuit diagram and then construct the actual circuit depicted in the diagram. Make qualitative observations regarding the behavior of circuits.

Essential Question How does electrical energy move from one point to another?

Main Ideas All circuits are designed to deliver energy to electrical devices (light bulbs, electric motors, etc...). The performance of these devices depends on how many are included in the circuit and how they are connected.

Vocabulary Conductor: A material that allows electricity to flow through it. Insulator: A material that resists the flow of electricity. Circuit: A path through which electricity travels Charge: Can be negative or positive and carries energy

What Do I Do? Read pages 1 & 2 Do Making Sense of Electric Circuits: Important Parts of a Circuit Read Page 4 & 5
