Conventions “Horror films are movies that strive to elicit the emotions of fear, horror and terror from viewers. Their plots frequently involve themes of death, the supernatural or mental illness. Many horror movies also include a central villain.” Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film My media product uses the conventions of violence and revenge, these are the types of things we expect to see. We expect to see the boy who gets bullied to get his revenge. I haven’t challenged the conventions, I have just kept to the same scenes, actions and story lines which I expect and want to see when I do and watch a horror film.

Social groups My media project represents people that have been bullied or have bullied someone or even seen it happen. I think this subject is common among people between the ages of 16 – 25 as they have seen or been involved in the issue in the past. This subject can relate to everyone so we decided to use it and enhance the reality of it. It represents a school life with teenagers, as bullying is always evident at that age. This means that the target audience that we have chosen have been involved in the issue and can relate to the situation at parts.

Distribution My budget is a low budget horror film so many distribution companies could produce it without spending a lot of money. The type of distributors that would distribute my film would be ‘Sony pictures’ as they have distributed horror films like ours and are a big company who can easily distribute a low budget movie like ours. They could afford to advertise for the film and produce it for cinemas as well as videos and DVDs. Having funding like this is brilliant for the distribution of any film as the advertisement can be very wide spread. The distributor ‘The global asylum’ would be a good distributor as there films are low budget so my film would be financially suitable for them. They also have experienced distributing low budget horror films like ours, as they produce movies capitalising on major film companies productions with direct-to-video productions. This would help with our film as it is only low budget and advertisement couldn’t be afforded.

My audience My audience would be both genders with a age bracket of 16-25. This is because my film is a horror film that younger people enjoy a lot more than older people. However my film would have a age certificate of 16 as the film has visual violence.
6
Attracted my audience I attracted my audience by having my film start of with a boy running with dramatic music playing. This would be exciting as the audience will want to know what is going off. The mystery created by this would hook the audience straight away. Fake blood has been used in the film as visual affects like this help to get the audience attracted to and want to keep watching the film and see how other characters die.

What I have learnt The things I have learnt about technologies from the process of constructing my media product Is the timing of zooming and when to change the camera shots. I also had to change the film around otherwise it wouldn’t work effectively and give off the affect that was required for a horror film. Also I found how hard it was to film and make sure that everything is edited together properly and doesn’t jump. I also found out from the planning at the beginning that some changes have to be made to make the film look visually better and more appropriate for the film type.

Progress I have learnt that movie making is hard unless planning is done correctly before filming and the correct times of day and environment is used. Planning and research is very important to make a film because directing and knowing what shots to use speeds up the filming process and makes the editing look a lot cleaner, as you know what mood and theme you are trying to create.
