9 Word Work When I read a sentence, I read each word without stopping between the words. If I come to a word I don’t know, I blend it. Then I read the sentence again.

14 Read Together Take out your student reader and turn to page 24. The girl is jumping in hay. What do you know about hay? Where might you find a lot of hay? Hay is grass that is cut and dried. Horses and cows on a farm eat hay. A hayloft is a place where a farmer keeps large piles of hay. Today we will listen to the poems « City Songs and Hayloft. »

15 Read Together Look at the end of each peom. The first peom ends with an exclamation mark. I’ll read that part with excitement. The second poem ends with a period. I’ll read that part with less excitement. Listen as I read these poems.

16 Read Together Which poem describes an urban place? What are some of the many things you see and hear in a city? Which poem describes a rural place? What is the girl doing in the country?
