2 The Gettysburg Address It was in 1863 November 19. Lincolns speech was only two minutes and contained only 272 words. David Wills a Gettysburg civic leader, proposed a National Soldier Cemetery in Gettysburg. The other speaker, Edward Everett, spoke for two hours.

3 Flags Both armies used flags which they also referred to as colors to locate their troops on the battlefield in camp and while on the march.

6 North Abraham Lincoln He only excepted war because it was the only way to save the union. He was born Feb.12 1809 died April 15 1865. Known for leading the country through the war Ulysses grant He was one of the leaders in the silver war. and was the union general. Born in 1822

7 Emancipation Proclamation President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862 as the United States was facing a third year of civil war.

8 General Lee… Lee was called king of spades. Northern, the union soldier had been a farmer before the war … the union soldier was very well equipped and attach brass number that specified their regiment to the top of the cap.

9 Eli Whitney Cotton Gin As Eli Whitney left New England and headed South in 1792, he had no idea that within the next seven months he would invent a machine that would profoundly alter the course of American history.

10 Underground Railroad The Underground Railroad was not underground because escaping slaves and the people who helped them were technically breaking the law, they had to stay out of sight. They went “underground” in terms of conceding their actions.

11 The Battle of Gettysburg The Battle of Gettysburg fought during the first three days of July 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg was one of the most critical battles of Civil War. The battle was the centerpiece of the Gettysburg Campaign, which began in the middle of June 1863, General Robert E. Lee marched his army the Army of Northern Virginia marched out of central Virginia and north toward the Potomac River with the objective of Maryland and Pennsylvania.
