3 3 Why is the APA running a leadership meeting? A New Name: The Academic Pediatric Association A New Mission: The APA is dedicated to improving the health of all children and adolescents through leadership in education of child health professionals, research and dissemination of knowledge, patient care, and advocacy, in partnership with children, families and communities. A Need: APA members wanted training to be leaders.

5 5 Conference Goals and Objectives Goal: to enhance the leadership skills of present and future division directors of general pediatrics Objectives: Participants will Participate in workshops and interactive seminars on leadership skills Develop and share innovations for strengthening the educational, research and clinical missions of divisions and sub-disciplines of general pediatrics and departments of pediatrics Network with leaders in Academic Pediatrics across the nation

6 6 National Leadership Conference Methods Pre-conference:  Engagement with institutional leadership  Reflective questionnaire  Reading and “pre-work” Conference  Plenary sessions (3 hours)  Interactive Panel Discussions (2.5 h)  Workshops (5.25 h)  Roundtable discussions (3.25 h)  Reflection and action planning (Up to you)

7 7 National Leadership Conference Methods Post-conference:  Re-engagement with institutional leadership  Reflective questionnaire after and in 3 months  Ongoing networking within the APA, your region and your sub-discipline

8 8 National Leadership Conference Evaluation Pre-Questionnaire on-line:  125 respondents so far.  Still open for procrastinators (or those without e-mail). Conference evaluations:  Short one for CME: Summative  Long one for faculty: Fill out after each session. Post-Questionnaire on-line:  By e-mail when you get home. 3 month follow-up:  By e-mail when you get home.

9 9 National Leadership Conference: Details Workshop maximum size = 30. Please respect assignments. Workshops are interactive: Please come prepared to work. Schedule is tight. Work with us to make it work.  Also, typo in the afternoon schedule. Workshop II starts at 3:45, not 3:30. Evaluations are essential part of the scholarly process, for the APA and presenters. Please fill them out.
