9 As a result of their Service Learning experience…

10 88% of students report greater awareness of social justice issues in the community

11 97% of students report they will work to further equality and justice

12 Reflection

13 Reflection is an integral part of the Service Learning experience.

14 Through 15 reflection sessions

15 Over 500 students per semester join together to reflect on their experiences, delve into issues of social justice, as well as discuss issues like racism and prejudice that plague our society.

17 Scholarship of Engagement Community (SOE)

18 12 faculty were selected to participate in the SOE Community. Participants received a $1,500- $2,000 course development award to integrate or enhance service learning in their course.

21 Faculty Bus Tour “Who’s still standing at the door? A look into women’s issues in Milwaukee”

22 Each Spring, dozens of Marquette faculty come together to visit several Service Learning sites on the annual Faculty Bus Tour.

27 The 2010 faculty workshop explored the topic Critical Issues in Service Learning : The intersection between my values, my teaching, and student learning

28 Staff Leadership & Development

29 The Service Learning Program actively promotes the leadership development of our student staff members.

31 The Service Learning staff serves as liaisons to Service Learning students, faculty, and community partners.

32 Service Learning Program Events: Sign-Up Night

34 Sign-Up Night is the primary means in which students sign up for Service Learning. In a 3-hour period, 500+ students sign up for their placements.

36 Midwest Service Leaders Conference

37 The Service Learning Program hosts the bi-annual Midwest Service Leaders Conference. The Conference is aimed at helping students develop skills, passion and knowledge to inspire meaningful service projects on campus.

39 During the 2010 Midwest Service Leaders Conference, 103 students representing 13 regional institutions were in attendance.

41 Students heard from speakers from various non- profits and also worked on service projects to benefit Project Night-Night, American Red Cross, Children’s Service Society and other organizations.
