Points to Ponder Dates What dates will summer school be offered? One session or two? Grades What marks will be issued? Do they affect the current or next year GPA? Building One or more locations? State requirements?

Determine Building Requirements Texas Must use a unique building number California Must use a unique building number if courses are part of the current school year (year just ended) All other states Use the regular year building if courses are part of the current school year and a unique term Otherwise building number is a choice Students may be enrolled in one building for summer school and a different building for the regular year at the same time!

Summer School Year? School years can, and will often, be different between Current School Year and Summer School Year.

Default Calendar If you are using an existing building, you cannot change the Default Calendar until the regular school year is over and summer school has begun.

Summer School Environment Make sure administrators and teachers know to go to the environment page to select the Summer School environment.

Summer School Setups Using the Building Setup checklist can help you visualize what is specific to the summer environment and what is not.

Durations – Just for Summer! Durations should be unique and have the Summer School box checked.

Scheduling Interval for Summer Create a unique Scheduling Interval.

Scheduling Configuration

Marking Periods Keep an eye on your term and RC Runs. If using a unique term, use and existing building if at all possible.

Scheduling Periods Periods are unique to the environment. How many courses will students meet in one day?

Timetable

Attendance Configuration Copy your Attendance Codes from the regular year environment to summer prior to creating your Attendance Configuration.

Mark Reporting Configuration

Mark Types for Summer School Unique mark types to go with a unique duration make the Master Schedule easier to interpret. Marks and Level Tables are not environment specific, so if you are using an existing building, they already exist. Use the Copy Setups Utility if needed. Think about whether honor roll is needed in Summer.
