Media Center Staff Librarian - Sheryl Johnson Assistant – None Aides – 2 or more each hour Volunteers – Mayson Husband (Wed. 10-12) Kelly Stover (Fri. 10-12)

Circulation Procedures  A student may check out up to 2 books at one time.  A student may keep his/her library books for three weeks at a time.  If a student is not finished with his/her books after three weeks, he/she may renew books for an additional three weeks.

Circulation Procedures Continued  If a student returns a book late, fines will be assessed after a one-week grace period.  The fine is $.25 per day after the one-week grace period, and the maximum fine is $1.00 per book.

Check out procedures 1. Make sure the Circulation tab is green. 2. Click “Check Out” tab on the left-hand side. 3. Ask student for last name; type it into the “Find” box; hit Enter. 4. If several people with same last name, look down list until you find their first name. 5. May need to hit “Reset” on bottom left-hand side if you see books instead of a list of names.

Check out procedures continued 6. Look to see if 2 books are already checked out. If so, no more may be checked out. If student says they turned one into Drop Box” go ahead and check out new book to them. 7. Pick up hand-held scanner; scan bar code on back of book in top right corner (not at bottom of book). 8. If you did it correctly, you will hear a beep and it will show you the title of the book being checked out.

The Book Drop  The book drop is the place where students return their library books.  The book drop is located by the front doors of the media center.  You should check the book drop at the beginning of the hour every day.

Assigned Shelves  Each student will be assigned a particular set of shelves.  It is your responsibility to check your shelves daily; make certain they are “dressed” (neat/tidy, pushed to the front and in order).  Periodic shelf checks will be done to assure the shelves are being maintained in the proper order.  A grade will be given based on the condition of the shelves in your section.  Remember, if your shelves are a mess or out of order, it will be difficult for students to locate books.

Assignments  Library Science aides will be expected to complete at least one assignment for most weeks.  These assignments will be related to the daily operation of the media center, reading or information literacy skills.  All assignments will be due on Friday, unless otherwise stated.  Late assignments will be reflected in the grade.  You need to make up assignments that you miss due to absences.

Book Reports  Every Library Science student will be required to read at least two books for the semester – one each quarter.  Each student will be required to complete a book trailer or other assignment for each book.  The book report due dates for the semester are February 22th & April 11th

Participation Grade  A 10-point participation grade will be given each day. To earn your points, you must do the following:  Wear your hall pass when running errands for office or counselor.  Check the book drop; check in books.  Shelve all of the books & straighten your section.  Check out books as needed.  Complete all tasks on “duty” sheet.  Complete any tasks assigned to you for the hour.  Read/study when all tasks are up-to-date.  Have good attendance.

Other Things To Remember  No food or drink allowed in the library, except plain water with a lid.  Library Science students may not use their cell phones during class without permission.  Library Science students may leave the media center upon request of the office or counselor to run errands; otherwise permission must be given by Mrs. Johnson.

More Things To Remember You may answer phone if Mrs. Johnson isn’t able to. Answer with “Media Center.” If the office or counselor needs an aide, simply grab a hall pass and go directly there. If the person on the phone needs to speak with me, take a message (includes name, what is needed and phone # if outside of school or my family).

The End Looking forward to a great semester with you.
