2 Congratulations!  You (or someone who cares about you) was able to complete the online application for enrollment!  Despite the fact that “Google” had some problems last week.  You persevered!

3 In the comment section, it was helpful to learn: – that you’re on a 504 plan – you’ll be gone for a week – 6 hours a day for PE? Really? – That you submitted your enrollment form on your aunt’s computer – And…..

4 Other comments – That you might have your cell phone taken away, so call your home phone – Your address may change during the summer – You are amazing individuals with good looks and grades

7 A little background  If you lived in Alabama, Michigan or Florida…  You would be required to complete at least one online course to graduate from high school

9 Our Purpose  To provide options for you that lead to a high school diploma  To help you to be successful in completing an online course this summer  To help you decide if taking an online course will work for you

10 Successful Online Students  Are good readers  Enjoy technology  Are organized and are good managers of time  Have a parent or other adult who will check work daily and provide structure

11 Online Courses are: 80% Student Directed and 20% Teacher Directed  Traditional School: – 80% Teacher Directed – 20% Student Directed  Online School: – 80% Student Directed – 20% Teacher Directed

12 Challenges working with technology  There are always problems  Always need a back up plan  Let’s see, what are some of the problems? – Internet down – Computer doesn’t work

13 If you choose online course:  4-6 hours per day or 30 hours per week for a 10 credit course  Organization  Parent Involvement  Flexibility of time  Gain new skills and learning about online learning  Join a small group of students in California who have taken online courses

24 Network Responsible Use Policy  Respect Yourself. I will select online names that are appropriate, I will consider the information and images that I post online. I will publish material that is my own.  Protect Yourself. I will not publish my personal details, contact details or a schedule of my activities especially in public places.  Respect Others. I will not use technologies to bully or tease other people.  Protect Others. I will protect others by reporting abuse or problems.  Respect Intellectual Property. I will cite any and all use of websites, books, media, etc.  Protect Intellectual Property. I will request to use the software and media others produce.
