All staff members working with your children will work in accordance with school policies. Every child and every adult will be shown respect. The class teacher will plan and deliver lessons which are aimed at developing every child’s abilities. Children will listen carefully, work hard and always try their best to succeed in every lesson.

Tables: in our classroom we have three tables completing work and different areas for continuous provision. Continuous provision: we have English and maths activities on the challenge tables, phonics or fine motor skills in the small world area, a role play area which links with our topics, religious education activities and construction activities on the carpet. Working walls: these are used to aid learning and enable children to support their own learning. Reading area: children are encouraged to use this area to promote pleasure for reading.

In the first half term we will be transitioning from EYFS to KS1, therefore we will be focusing on key skills in both writing and mathematics.

Reading is the key to your child’s success throughout all curriculum subjects. Therefore there is a emphasis on children reading for pleasure in class and at home. Home reading books are changed every Tuesday and Thursday, and these should be brought back to school every day. We encourage you to hear your child read each day, we understand how difficult this can be at times but it really does make a difference. Every Thursday the children are tested on their keywords or spellings that are sent home each week. Please practise these with your child.

* The phonics screening check is a statutory assessment for all children in Year 1. * It will take place week commencing 13th June 2016. * It comprises of a list of 40 words (20 real and 20 nonsense). * Expectations from the Government is that pupils should achieve up to 32 out of 40 to reach the expected level, however the pass mark could change. * The check will take up to ten minutes per pupil and will be conducted by myself. * Children who do not achieve the expected level at the end of Year 1 must be considered for a retake in Year 2. * The children will consolidate what they have already learnt in reception, and continue to work through the phases this year. * Reading in school and at home will help children to put sounds they have learnt into practise. * See handout for a brief phonics list.

Uniform: Navy blue school jumper, black trousers, navy blue skirt or pinafore, white shirt/polo shirt, black shoes, blue checked dress (in summer) PE Kit (including name): White round necked t-shirt; Blue shorts; Black pumps PE day (Monday and Tuesday) Key words/Spellings (Thursday) Learning Logs (Given every Tuesday- brought back on a Monday.)
