13 When land runs out, immigrants flood into the backcountry Appalachians

14 Great Wagon Road over the Appalachians is eventually replaced by the National Road

15 Conflict with the Indians as settlers moved over the Appalachian Mountains!

18 Includes a blacksmith, silversmith, cooper (barrelmaker), grain mill, etc

20 Rivers - wide, easy to navigate Goods shipped directly from plantation - few cities develop

21 Large plantations depended on slave labor

22 Crops - tobacco, cotton, rice
