1 Machu Picchu This mountaintop was home to the Inca in the 15th Century. The Inca were an American civilization who lived high in the Andes Mountains (modern day Peru). Today, the ruins at Machu Picchu are threatened by over-tourism. Sample Introduction

3 Research in Four Steps Step # 1 - Focus - During “Focus” blocks you will... Decide on a topic. -Watch videos shown and explore history websites. -Create a brainstorm of what you already know about a topic. -Create a list of possible questions for your research. Get Ahead: Make a list of key words and search terms.

4 Step # 2 - Locate Information - During Research Blocks you will: Locate information on your topic and make point form notes. -Bring your notebook (research notes and assignment information). -Use a variety of sources: an encyclopedia, non-fiction books and online articles. Get Ahead: Don’t stick to the minimum; go find more resources. Research in Four Steps

5 Step # 3 -Work with the information - During these blocks you will: Read your notes and begin to put your information into categories/sub-topics. Begin the writing process by taking your notes and putting them into your own words. Use a thesaurus to help you do this part. Get Ahead: Decide how you will present your information? Will you make a brochure? A PowerPoint presentation? Research in Four Steps

6 Step # 4 Use/Share the information During these blocks you will: Create a presentation to share your research. - Examples of presentations include: travel brochure, poster, model, video, PowerPoint presentation, Explain Everything, Show Me. Research in Four Steps

7 Take a moment to review the information you have collected so far. Q: Have you had success locating good sources? Q: Have you completed your “My Top Picks” page? Q: Have you decided on your top two choices? If “yes”, take out a pencil and make a star beside your top 2 choices. Be sure to hand this in (inside your red duotang) before Ms. Larock returns. If “no” you will need to ask for help to complete this page at lunch-recess. Project Check-In # 1

How you will present your information? If you do a live/video presentation will you create cue cards for yourself?
