D ARA B ABINSKI My name is Dara Babinski. I am a graduate student at the University of Buffalo interested in parental psychopathology and interventions for disruptive child behavior. Nearly two years ago, my graduate advisor and the majority of the staff at his Buffalo ADHD clinic moved to Florida International University, and I have been enjoying completing my dissertation in a much warmer climate. I am originally from Philadelphia and completed my undergraduate degree at Syracuse University. I am looking forward to a productive internship year and to exploring Gainesville.

W HITNEY J ENKINS Hi everyone! My name is Whitney Jenkins and I'll be coming to Gainesville from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. I received my BS in Psychology from Florida State University and spent the following year working as a research assistant for Brooks Rehabilitation and UF. I received my graduate training at LSU with an emphasis on child psychology. My research and clinical interests focus on child anxiety, though I am particularly interested in gaining new experience in health psychology. In my free time, I enjoy reading, coffee, watching and playing sports, tailgating, and spending time with my boyfriend and our puppy. I am excited to be at UF and look forward to working with great new people!

B RIAN O LSEN My name is Brian Olsen. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and lived there until just after graduating high school. After high school I left my family to serve the people in La Paz, Bolivia for two years, which sparked my love for psychology. Following my return to the U.S., I completed my B.S. at the University of Utah and subsequently went to graduate school at the University of Cincinnati. Regarding family life, my wife and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this fall. We have three girls (ages 8, 5, and 2). We enjoy doing many things outside like hiking, sports, and of course swimming. I look forward to enjoying all of the many outdoor activities here in Gainesville.

K ASEY C LABORN I was born and raised in West Texas; however, I am not your stereotypical West Texas girl. I don’t ride a horse or own cowboy boots, but I do have a bit of an accent some would say. I have spent the last 5 years in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at Oklahoma State University where I have studied Health Psychology with a focus in HIV and addictions. I am very excited to move to the Sunshine State. I love the outdoors and enjoy running, playing basketball, and listening to live music. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and spending some of my free time at the beach!

K ATHARINE H ERMAN I have spent the majority of my life in Florida and truly could not envision myself anywhere else. I earned a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S.N. in Nursing from the University of West Florida. I subsequently took the nursing boards for the State of Florida and continue to hold my Registered Nurse license. I additionally earned a M.A. in Psychology (Mental Health Counseling Track), as well as a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction/Guidance and Counseling from the University of West Florida. I started the combined Ph.D. program in Counseling and School Psychology from Florida State University and have just finished my third year in the program. I am passionate about the interplay between medicine and psychology and am very excited to be in an internship site that will allow me to utilize both my nursing and psychology knowledge. On a personal note, I love the outdoors and am very excited to try horseback riding in Gainesville. I am additionally excited to do some exploring, as well as meet new people. My husband is a medical student, and therefore, he and I enjoy studying together in local coffee shops. We just discovered Coffee Culture on Newberry Road and I think we found our new studying spot!

T AYLOR R USH Hello All! I hail from Greenville, NC where I am completing my PhD in Clinical Health Psychology at East Carolina University. I grew up in the Gainesville area (go Gators!), received my B.S. in psychology from the University of Florida and my M.A. in clinical psychology from Forest Institute in Missouri. My areas of research have included treatment adherence interventions for diabetes, biological and psychological stress pathways associated with pre-term birth, and mindfulness-based interventions for stress reduction and health promotion. I am genuinely looking forward to starting my internship at UF so I can both expand and fine- tune my clinical skill set. I enjoy spending “free” time with my husband and 9-month old daughter, reading, and playing with my two dogs. I am very excited about moving back to Gainesville and hope to show my husband and daughter many of the great experiences this area has to offer!

S TEPHANIE S MITH I am excited to be transitioning from a graduate student to a med/health intern in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida. I recently completed my fourth year of graduate training with a specialization in health psychology and oncology. My research interests include understanding relationships between postoperative healing, psychosocial functioning, and neuroendocrine/immune functioning among women with gynecologic cancers. I enjoy spending time with my husband, my family, and my friends. I also enjoy taking our dog Holly for walks outside, going to the beach, cooking, and reading. I’m looking forward to getting some new experiences and meeting some new people on internship while still enjoying all that Florida has to offer!

K ATHY C HIOU Hi everyone, my name is Kathy Chiou. I grew up in the suburbs near Chicago and then traveled out to the West Coast for undergrad at the University of California, Berkeley. I am currently in the program at Penn State where I spend my time researching metacognitive functioning following moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. I love being outdoors and try to find time to hike, backpack, or snowboard when I can. I also enjoy running and look forward to exploring Gainesville on foot (although I’m a little nervous about acclimating to the heat!). I’m excited to meet and work with everyone at UF!

T IMOTHY M CQUEETY Greetings UF! I’ll be joining the team from the University of Cincinnati where I use neuropsychology and brain imaging techniques to study addictions and brain development. My interest in these topics go way back… all the way to the West Coast. Before graduate school I grew up in the wine country of Northern California then moved to San Diego for my undergraduate degree at UCSD. I stuck around for a few years working in a lab studying the neural bases of risks for and consequences from substance use in adolescents and I’ve enjoyed continuing similar lines of research with my mentor in Cincinnati. On a personal note, I will moving to Gainesville with my adopted mini schnauzer, Wechsler (“Wex” for short). We like to go for walks, jogs and my volleyball games. My creative outlet and guilty pleasure is cooking and baking. You may even be able to gauge my stress level by the cupcakes and cookies that may appear in the department! I look forward to getting to know you more this year.

A LICIA M ORAN I grew up in the wonderful dairy state, Wisconsin. I attended Marquette University for my undergrad degree and spent that past five years at East Carolina University's health psychology program, where I have been told I've acquired a southern accent. Much of my research has been in the field of behavioral sleep medicine, and I have recently gained interest in sports related concussion and the longterm neurocognitive effects (such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy). I also love running, doing crossfit, mountain biking, snowboarding and participating in adventure races. You should also know I'm a huge Green Bay Packers fan and love college basketball (Go Marquette). I'm getting married in September and my fiancé is currently stuck in Chicago until he finds a job in Gainesville. I'm pretty excited to have palm trees in my yard and live driving distance from the Tim Tebow statue, but my Siberian Husky, Juneau, is dreading the Florida summer.

D ANIELLE P LOETZ Hello!! I was born into a military family (Air Force) in New York State. I have also lived in Texas, California, Italy, England, Mississippi, Alabama, and now Florida. I love to travel and experience new things. My bachelor’s degree is in Biology but after a year of working in the field (i.e., grunt work on a boat) I decided to go back to school for Psychology. I completed my graduate training at the University of South Alabama in a new program that combines clinical and counseling psychology. As you can imagine, being the first comes with a lot of uncertainty so it is safe to say I am comfortable with ambiguity. I really enjoy ALL outdoor activities and am especially excited to get a few SCUBA diving trips in while I am there. I am so excited to be a part of the UF team. See you soon!
