5 Goal and priorities NFP II and MSP II NFPMSP Goal: Build capacity within organisations to enable employees to take part in courses and training. New: focus on economic diplomacy. Goal: Contribute to democratization, support bilateral activities, build capacity. Also contributes to creating a positive image of the Netherlands. Priorities: Policy principles Ministry of Foreign Affairs Support the bilateral goals of the embassy with regard to development cooperation. Priorities: 50% of fellowships have to be awarded to women Support the bilateral goals of the embassy. 4

7 Candidate registers for fellowship at Dutch institution Dutch institution submits grant request (nominates candidates for fellowship) Embassy checks eligibility and assesses application Selection and grant award Dutch institution informs candidates about result application (not eligible, not selected or selected) 6 Application and selection in short

8 Application period  Start 2 months before application deadline  Preceded by preparation phase: Nuffic: imports courses in Atlas Dutch institution: checks course details in Atlas, prepare registration form  Registration form: for candidates to register for fellowship at Dutch institution  Application deadline = deadline for Dutch institution to submit grant request 7

9 Eligibility check  Directly after application deadline  Check on objective criteria for candidates  If indicated not-eligible: application not further processed for an NFP or MSP fellowship  Eligibility check is identical for sub programmes: Master’s, short courses, PhD.  Only nominated candidates. 8

10 Assessment  Directly after checking the eligibility of an application  Only eligible applications  By means of answering questions  Response options range from poor to excellent  Deadline for eligibility check and assessment: 4 weeks after application deadline 9

11 Selection  Assessment leads to a score. Determines position in the ranking of all eligible applications  Highest ranked => selected  Correction => if policy principles are not met Priority country Sub Sahara Africa (50% budget) Food security (35% budget) Applications from female candidates (50% of fellowships to female candidates) 10

12 Dates application deadline 4 November 2014  18 August 2014: preparation Nuffic imports course details into Atlas Institution: check course details, prepare form  4 September 2014: start application period registration form for candidates available. Institutions can submit grant request  4 November 2014: application deadline institutions  2 December 2014: deadline eligibility check + assessment  23 december 2014 (approx): selection 11
