5. + Maintenance Staff 1 Director of Facilities and Transportation for the district Elementary School maintenance staff: 2 day shift maintenance and custodial workers 3 night shift maintenance and custodial workers (1 of whom works Saturdays during the day) MS/HS maintenance staff: 4 day shift maintenance and custodial workers (1 of whom works Saturdays) 4 night shift maintenance and custodial workers Substitute maintenance and custodial workers are scarce

6. + Transportation Department Our transportation department is responsible for transporting students to our schools each day as well as providing legally required transportation for district resident students to private schools within a 15 mile radius (and up to 50 miles for special needs and homeless students) and for students with special needs placed in out of district programs We share 2 out of district routes with Guilderland and BKW to increase efficiency and save costs VCSD has 19 regular bus routes during the school day, including both in district and out of district routes: 10 regular bus routes for students attending our schools 6 routes are a combination of in district and out of district 3 routes are to out of district programs There are also 5 late bus routes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

7. + Data on our Regular Bus Routes Our buses travel at total of 1,100 miles per day on all regular routes Our drivers spend a total of 52 hours per day driving on regular routes Our buses average 62% of capacity for all regular routes Our buses transport 2000 students on regular routes each day (many both ways so this number is greater than our total enrollment)

8. + Bus Fleet The district owns the following buses (size expressed for the maximum number of children it may transport): 1 72 passenger bus 7 60 passenger buses 11 59 passenger buses 5 28 passenger buses 2 16 passenger with wheelchair lift buses 3 8 passenger Suburbans 2 7 passenger Chevy Venture vans (one used for driver ed.)

9. + Replacement Schedule The district has historically replaced 2-3 transportation vehicles per year The reasons to regularly replace vehicles are to 1. reduce the time and expense of maintenance 2. ensure that buses can pass DOT inspections, and 3. keep students safe. The proposal for 2016-17 for replacement vehicles will be to Replace the 2 Chevy Ventures Replace 1 20 passenger bus with a 28 passenger bus

10. + Issues for the Future The roofs at the Elementary School are 15 -20 years old – they will need to be replaced eventually in a future capital project The playground at the Elementary School is 25 years old and will eventually need to be replaced There is a lack of equipment storage at the Middle School/High School – equipment is stored outside, limiting life spans The Air Conditioning unit for the PAC is noisy and not as efficient as current models – we are looking at short term solutions to the noise and a longer term replacement of this unit Security systems and main entry doors need to be upgraded at both campuses – this is in process and will be 100% reimbursable through the Smart Schools Bond Act There are concerns with the traffic patterns at both campuses – an outside consultant would give us advice as to possible improvements There will be consideration of a capital project in 5 years to address facilities needs Our district and most districts in NYS face a critical shortage of substitute bus drivers
